Job DescriptionAt Bethesda House, our goal is to end the cycle of poverty and homelessness - not just manage the symptoms.

Our teams work to address each individual on a holistic level so they feel heard, respected, and safe in our care.

We offer hands-on help to address chronic homelessness, mental health, substance abuse, disability, and systematic poverty by offering innovative solutions and proactive services to the most vulnerable in Schenectady County.

The Building & Property Tech is responsible to ensure that the maintenance, repair, sanitation and cleanliness are kept to a high standard and that all outside and equipment maintenance is timely. This position is the lead technician and works closely with the Director of Property & Facility Operations. This position is responsible for giving direction, supervising, and working in collaboration with custodial, front desk/security and building monitor staff. This position has On-Call responsibilities after hours and weekends.

Specific Duties/Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  • Supervise building facility staff for all Agency locations.
  • Work with the Director of Property & Facility Operations to create daily action plans for routine maintenance and projects at all Agency locations including but not limited to:
    • Painting,
    • Floor,
    • Offices,
    • Outside of buildings, etc.
  • Assist in managing the WorxHub database:
    • complete in-house projects,
    • complete work orders as assigned,
    • updating preventative maintenance plans for all systems as assigned,
    • ensure all annual service agreements are uploaded.
  • Supervise contractors while performing building and property tasks, as appropriate.
  • Provide project summary and quotes for outside vendors.
  • Maintain a daily, weekly, monthly routine for cleaning and maintenance.
  • Complete work orders including cost summary.
  • Monitor utility usage/costs and adhere to agency’s maintenance budget.
  • Maintain a preventative maintenance plan for all systems.
  • Complete necessary upkeep and repairs.
  • Provide Maintenance and Building Status reports.
  • Coordinate training for and conduct Fire Drills.
  • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality regarding employees, volunteers, residents and guests.

Qualifications:

  • Two year degree or trade school certification in related field.
  • Experience and expertise in building maintenance and property management.
  • Experience supervising staff.
  • Ability to work in an environment that provides services to the homeless and diverse population.
  • Knowledge of building mechanical systems essential.
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License for at least one year.
  • No DWI or DWAI within the last three years and the ability to be covered by the Agency’s insurance.
  • Ability to pass the Agency’s road test.
  • Must be able to provide own transportation.
  • Must successfully complete a background investigation.


Essential Functions:

  • Ability to work with computers to communicate with agency employees and outside vendors.
  • Ability to use and supervise use of building maintenance equipment/cleaning products.
  • Ability to work with financial/statistical data regarding utility, maintenance and repair costs/budgeting.
  • Knowledge of building mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of NYS and OSHA safety regulations.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs, minimum
  • Ability to work full time during normal business hours on a regular basis.
  • Ability to effectively handle conflict and/or confrontation in order to reach a resolution satisfactory to all parties.
  • Ability to work under deadline pressure to meet established work goals. May also include ability to work hours above normally scheduled work hours to accomplish same.
  • Ability to effectively communicate (both orally and in written form) with subordinates, peers, and superiors.
  • Ability to represent the agency in a professional manner to all parties with which she/he comes into contact.


Pay rate: $60k - $70k
Schedule: Monday – Friday: 9am – 4:30 pm
