The main function of a Bench Scientist is to execute laboratory-based experiments that support scientific research, product development, and technical investigations.

This role involves hands-on work with analytical and characterisation techniques, contributing directly to data generation, method optimisation, and problem-solving.

Bench Scientists differ from lab assistants in that they are responsible for the execution and interpretation of scientific protocols, often working closely with research leads to inform decision-making.
Qualifications:
-
BS in Molecular Biology, Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, Virology, or related field + at least 2 years of hands-on lab experience,
-
MS in a related field (with relevant lab experience).

Degree in a scientific discipline such as Chemistry, Biology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related field.

0-2 years experience required.

Hands-on molecular biology lab experience (academic or industry).
-
Must include independent bench work.

Core technical proficiency in:PCR/RT-PCR,Cloning techniques
-
Conduct laboratory experiments using established scientific methods to support research and development objectives.

Prepare and analyse samples using appropriate instrumentation and techniques.
-
Document experimental procedures, results, and observations in compliance with GLP and internal standards.
-
Collaborate with scientists and project teams to troubleshoot issues and interpret data.
-
Proficiency in laboratory techniques and instrumentation relevant to the scientific discipline.

Ability to follow and adapt scientific protocols with attention to detail.

Strong documentation and data interpretation skills.
-
Effective communication and collaboration within multidisciplinary teams.
-
Ability to work standard hours (e.g., 8-4 or 9-5) with occasional weekend work if needed.

Strong collaboration and communication skills for team meetings and lab coordination.

Virology experience (any type: human, plant, etc.).
-
Familiarity with molecular biology software (e.g., SnapGene, Geneious Prime).
-
Experience with sequencing techniques (advantageous but not required).
-
Prior experience in academic or industry research projects involving molecular biology.
-
Candidates from New York/New Jersey area preferred for commute, but relocation is acceptable.

Technical Certification Bonus: Synectics is pleased to award its employees a bonus of up to $500 for an approved professional certification. In determining the bonus amount, Synectics will consider the cost of the test(s) for any certification relating to your current position, achieved during your employment with us. Only one Certification Bonus per calendar year may be awarded per employee. Only current, active employees will be eligible to receive this bonus. It will be awarded 90 days after the Synectics office has received documentation confirming the successful completion of the certification.
