Working hours: Monday-Friday, between 7:00am - 6:00pm. 8 hours/day, 5 days/week, typically 8:00am - 4:30pm
Location: Amherst, NY. Must be able to travel to all Dent Locations, Amherst, Williamsville, Orchard Park, & Batavia
Position Summary: Coordinate and participate in a variety of supportive patient care and clinic preparations that assist medical professional personnel.
Responsibilities of Position:
- Coordinates and participates in a variety of patient care activities in the examination of patients to include: vital signs, mini assessments, assisting with diagnostic procedures, records data for medical record and calls in prescriptions to the pharmacy as directed by the physician.
- Determine, prepare and set-up medical supplies, instruments and equipment for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
- Confers with the patient to obtain accurate information for records, explains procedures, allay fears and elicit cooperation
- Ensure completion of chart information prior to examination by physician or extender, entering any prescriptions, diagnostic testing and outside procedures.
- Assists in completion of insurance/compensation/disability/prior authorization forms
- Escort and/or transport patients to the examination room and other clinic locations.
- Evaluate patient care with an emphasis on patient response; monitors providers' plan of care from patient assessments, medical record, and other record information; maintains liaison with physicians and practice administration to ensure efficient and effective patient care services.
- Answers all calls pertinent to assigned area and/or directing clinical calls to appropriate clinical personnel while also responding appropriately to patient inquiries and referring physician’s office inquiries, providing accurate and detailed information.
- Schedules follow up appointments for office visits and diagnostic testing
- Coordinates scheduling with medical secretary and assists with modifying provider schedule when necessary to conform to changing priorities and unanticipated events, including changes in staffing schedule and other activities.
- Work in conjunction with Medical Secretary and cover job duties as needed.
- Maintain work area in clean and orderly condition; set up, clean and disinfect examination rooms; monitor and ensure appropriate inventory of medical supplies in examination rooms; replenish as required
- Complies with quality assurance, HIPAA, customer focus, infection control, safety and other policies as set forth.
- Ensures adequate and appropriate patient follow-up regarding prescriptions, referrals, and diagnostic testing. Contributes to patient care through patient and family education, distributing resource literature and community service recommendations and referrals as needed.
- Refers patients to proper resources for Dent policies such as billing and or financial support.
- Reports errors or problems so that appropriate action may be taken for patient care
- Independently problem solves and utilizes resources to obtain patient information when the patient is unable to communicate.
- Represents Dent by displaying a respectful and caring manner with patients and their families. Interacts calmly, respectfully and in a friendly manner with other employees of Dent.
- Participate in development and implementation of general policies and procedures to provide for the physical and emotional comfort and safety of patients. Maintains competence through continuing education and in-service training.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
- Complies with quality assurance, HIPAA, customer focus, infection control, safety and other policies as set forth.
- Organization of work area and clinic, keeping the provider on schedule. Prioritization of tasks.
- Performs other duties as assigned or requested by Clinic Manager and/or Providers.

Skills & Experience Necessary:
- High degree of verbal communication and interpersonal skills to determine needs, provide information, and provide emotional support
- Working knowledge of Microsoft office, specifically Excel.
- Strong planning, problem solving, organizational, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills
- Working knowledge of general office equipment including fax and copy machines, multi-line phone system, and personal computer
- Ability to address and resolve conflict in a professional manner
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
- Ability to be flexible
- Ability and willingness to travel as needed to meet operational needs
Required Education
- High School Diploma and 2+ years related experience.
Preferred Education
- Associates Degree and 2 years related experience.
Working Conditions:
- Minimal/moderate physical effort
- Prolonged standing and walking periods with often bending, squatting, reach above shoulder level, crouching, kneeling, and push/pull
- Regular fine hand manipulation
- Associated health risks related to patient exposure including body fluids
- Requires some lifting usually not in excess of 25 pounds
Travel
- Travel between DENT Neurologic Institute sites required
Compensation:
- Most candidates will start within the first quartile of the pay range
- Rates are commensurate with experience
