Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of Clinical, Counseling Services, and Community Engagement, the Mental Health Clinician is responsible for providing trauma-informed education, outreach, counseling, and therapeutic support to adult victims of domestic violence and individuals in need of mental health services. This includes delivering individual and group therapy to clients residing in the YWCA NENY Empowerment Healing and Wellness Center (domestic violence shelter), clients experiencing severe domestic violence, and other victims/survivors within the community and YWCA NENY housing program.

Essential Duties:

  • Provide trauma-informed individual and group counseling services to adult victims of domestic violence and other individuals in need of mental health support, with a consistent presence at the YWCA NENY Empowerment Healing and Wellness Center (EHWC).
  • Maintain a weekly caseload of 20–30 clients from YWCA NENY housing programs, the DV shelter, high-risk referrals, and other community sources; prioritize cases referred by the Schenectady County High Risk Team in coordination with YWCA NENY advocates.
  • Develop and lead (or co-lead) educational and therapeutic support groups for community members impacted by domestic violence and mental health challenges.
  • Collaborate with EHWC staff through weekly case reviews and maintain strong communication and coordination across teams.
  • Provide crisis intervention, safety planning, referrals, and advocacy for clients requiring specialized or long-term care.
  • Accurately maintain documentation, case notes, and data for all counseling and group activities; ensure compliance with agency and funding requirements, including program billing and grant reporting.
  • Uphold strict confidentiality and compliance with VAWA, while ensuring the secure handling of all client records and YWCA NENY issued equipment.
  • Participate in weekly team meetings and individual clinical supervision; represent YWCA NENY professionally while working independently at off-site partner locations as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned in alignment with program/organizational goals and client needs.

Qualifications:

  • Master of science degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, or a related field.
  • Valid and current NYS LMSW or LCSW license (or similar licensure).
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience providing individual and group counseling, including crisis intervention; experience working with victims of domestic violence or crime is preferred.
  • Strong understanding and application of trauma-informed care principles.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in interpersonal and clinical skills, including communication, empathy, and problem-solving.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk.
  • Ability to use computer and necessary agency software.
  • Able to lift up to 25 pounds without team assistance.
  • Occasional bending, standing, reaching, stair climbing.

  • Clean NYS Driver’s license, Traffic Abstract and Defensive driving certificate required upon hiring.
  • Ability to use your own vehicle for work-related travel.
