Diagnosing and treating Acupuncturists use acupuncture needles to stimulate specific points in the body to diagnose and treat disorders. They may also use other alternative health therapies, such as cups, nutritional supplements, therapeutic massage, and acupressure.

  • Consulting with patients Acupuncturists consult with patients to establish a case history, assess their health, and determine a treatment plan. They explain the diagnosis and treatment to the patient and respond to their questions.

  • Conducting treatments Acupuncturists perform one-to-one treatment sessions, inserting fine needles into the skin at specific locations.

  • Evaluating progress Acupuncturists assess patient progress through questioning and examination, and may review treatment plans if necessary.

  • Maintaining records Acupuncturists keep accurate and confidential patient records.

  • Educating patients Acupuncturists educate patients on topics such as meditation, ergonomics, stretching, exercise, nutrition, and relaxation techniques.
