Job DescriptionJoin Our Team as a Temporary Maintenance Associate at HI USA New York City Hostel!

Would you love to interact with travelers from all around the world while ensuring our building stays in peak condition? Join HI USA at our New York City hostel, located in the Upper West Side. We are currently accepting applications for a temporary AM Maintenance Associate for 3-6 months. The Maintenance Associate is responsible for maintaining the hostel property in excellent condition through timely repair and routine maintenance. This role demands both independent initiative and teamwork. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated maintenance experience, particularly those with skills in painting, spackling, and basic plumbing.

Position Details:

  

Pay: $18.50-22.00 per hour, DOE

Shifts: Morning Shifts

Type:  Temporary for approximately 3-6 months

Role Objectives & Responsibilities:

- Perform routine maintenance throughout the property, including grounds maintenance, building repairs, and preventative maintenance

- Maintain the physical condition of the hostel to HI USA standards, ensuring a positive guest experience

- Record and resolve work orders promptly, anticipating and responding to hostel needs

- Monitor and address pest control issues

- Perform janitorial duties and support housekeeping as needed

- Assist with special projects or duties as assigned

Skills/Qualifications:

- Proficiency in plumbing, painting, or general repair skills

- HVAC and electrical experience a plus

- Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills, adept at interacting with diverse personalities

- Sound judgment, able to work independently or with minimal supervision

- Effective multitasking and comprehension of instructions in English

- Physical capability for duties such as lifting and extended standing

- Spanish language skills preferred

- High school diploma or GED

Physical Requirements:  

- Regularly required to sit, use hands and arms  

- Frequently required to stand, walk, talk, and hear  

- Occasionally required to climb or balance  

- Must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds  

- Specific vision abilities required: close, peripheral, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus  

- Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
