Our client, a well-established non-profit organization serving communities in New York City, is seeking a Lead Teacher to join their Pre-Kindergarten program in the Bronx. The ideal candidate will provide a high-quality learning environment tailored to four-year-old students, fostering their social, intellectual, physical, and emotional development in alignment with program and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop lesson plans using the NYC Department of Education Common Core curriculum framework
- Lead classroom activities and supervise the planning and execution of educational experiences for children
- Communicate with parents regarding each child’s progress and present curriculum information at parent meetings
- Supervise assistant teachers, substitute teachers, and volunteers
- Create classroom materials, maintain class records, and manage student files
- Input and analyze student data on agency and curricular platforms
- Maintain classroom portfolios per National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) requirements
- Adapt classroom practices to meet the needs of individual children, including those with special needs
- Supervise indoor and outdoor activities, ensuring positive guidance and safety
- Collaborate with community resources to enrich program content
- Implement classroom activities and educational practices that support readiness for future learning experiences
- Maintain strong relationships with parents, families, colleagues, and administrators
- Conduct quality observations and assessments to inform programming decisions
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field
- Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience with young children
- Enrollment in or completion of a graduate program in Early Childhood Education
- Ability to pass DOE/DOI/PETS fingerprint clearance, CBC clearance, and SCR clearance
- Completion of foundational health and safety trainings (online courses) before starting the position
- Completion of special health and safety certifications related to child abuse/maltreatment prevention, brain injury (AHT), SIDS, and infectious disease control
