Job Summary: • The Speech Therapist evaluates and treats children identified by the school district as a student with a disability • The treating therapists will utilize principals of growth and development in establishing guidelines for the implementation of the children’s IEP • Services will be provided in conformance with all regulatory bodies governing the populations, school policy and procedure and in compliance with the NYS Speech Qualifications: • Fully Licensed Speech Pathologist (MA or MS CCC, TSHH or TSLD, Bilingual Extension) • Clinical Fellows (MS, MA, BE, CF Application to NYS and ASHA) • Bachelor’s degree in Communication Disorders (TSHH and BE) Job Responsibilities: • The Speech-Language Pathologist, Clinical Fellow or Teacher of the Speech and Hearing Handicapped provides evaluation and treatment to children identified by the school district as a child/student with a disability as outlined in Part 200 Regulations/IDEA • Maintain appropriate attendance for each individual child: -Sign out sheet to include date child was taken out or a session was given in the class; child was absent (#3), therapist was absent (#4), and/or school was closed (#6) -One card per child if child service for each mandated service on IEP -A separate card per child with a split mandate (i.e. 1X2:1 and 1X/30/1:1) -Document accordingly on attendance card • Utilizes principles of growth and development in establishing guidelines for the implementation of the child’s IEP • Provides all necessary documentation within the required time frames including Develop daily session notes in EZ Trac submitted on a monthly basis • IEP’s and report cards MUST be put on the shared drive upon completion • Session notes should be entered in the EZ Trac and MUST be completed within 24-48 hours upon completion • Hard copies of session notes are to be handed in monthly on the designated date (on or about the 10th of the month) • The Speech-Language Pathologist, Clinical Fellow or Teacher of the Speech and Hearing Handicapped, provides services in conformance with all the regulatory bodies governing this population, school policy and procedure and in compliance with the NYS Speech-Language Therapy Practice Act • Evaluate children on caseload with known or suspected disabilities for Annual Reviews or Updates with IEP pages included as needed and Speech Authorization (only for Annual Reports) • Participate in planning/meeting with team members, the school district, parents and other members of the CPSE. Notify Supervisors, and TEAM concerning any suggested changed to IEP. • Maintain current malpractice insurance • Develop and implement special school events in compliance with IEP goals and NYS Standards • Assist with daily bussing • Submit Annual Reports to Supervisor for signature as needed (CF, Bilingual Extension, TSHH or TSLD) • Participate in Speech Department Meetings • Cover for classroom teachers when necessary • Certified Speech-language Pathologists (CCC) may assist in Mentoring TSHH, TSLD and/or Graduate students • Participate in and/or lead Workshops related to Standard Practices of Speech and Language Pathology • Contact parents via telephone and/or in writing when there is a change in therapist. Use “telephone contact form” to document ANY conversation with parents or related personnel regarding this child needs to be documented • Serve as a role model for student and staff in demonstrating positive attitudes, appropriate attire and grooming and effective work ethic • Protect confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties and use discretion in sharing such information within legal confines • Perform any duties and reasonability’s that are within the scope of employment, as assigned by their supervisor and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation • Notify school of absences due to illness, emergency leave, normal vacation periods, or professional meetings that will affect agreed upon services in the school • Treat all children with dignity and respect • Attend 3-5 evening orientations/conference events with parents • Must be able to life 40 pounds • Determine the primary method of communication for each child on their caseload and train the team and family members in its usage • Develop/maintain session/makeup log due to staff absences • Will ensure that every therapist will sanitize materials/equipment/toys in his/her office periodically and between students • Will ensure that they will follow all the policies and procedures of Positive Beginnings, including the current Reopening Plan as well as the Federal, NYSED, NYC DOHMH guidelines/rules and regulations.
