Job Summary

The Maintenance Technician is primarily responsible for the repair, maintenance, and upkeep of all plant equipment and systems to ensure maximum production efficiency and uptime, safety, and product quality. They participate in routine maintenance programs, biannual plant shutdowns, troubleshoot issues, and complete emergency repairs.

Duties and Responsibilities

Repair and Maintenance:

· Repairing or replacing plant equipment or systems on a scheduled or emergency basis. This often involves industrial equipment like pumps, valves, compressors, conveying equipment, centrifuges, fermenters, and distillation systems.

· Participating in plant-wide activities such as plant shutdowns and general plant cleanliness and safety programs.

Preventive Maintenance (PM):

· Performing routine preventive maintenance activities to maximize uptime and prevent costly breakdowns. This includes inspecting, cleaning, and lubricating components.

Troubleshooting:

· Diagnosing and resolving mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic maintenance-related issues efficiently.

Installation:

· Assisting with new equipment installations, system upgrades, and other projects, often working alongside engineering staff, external contractors, and vendors.

Coordination:

· Communicating directly with the production and other departments to coordinate maintenance work and minimize disruption to operations.

Safety and Compliance:

· Adhering to all plant safety rules and regulations, participating in health, safety, and environmental programs, and ensuring all maintenance work complies with applicable requirements (as instructed by the Maintenance Manager).

Documentation:

· Completing work orders, preventative maintenance worksheets, and maintaining accurate records of all maintenance activities.

Experience and Qualifications

Education:

· High School Diploma or GED is preferred.

· Associate Degree, technical degree, or certification in a related field (e.g., Industrial Maintenance, Mechanics, Electrical Technology) is preferred.

Experience:

· ​Two or more years of experience in the maintenance or repair of industrial equipment is preferred.

· ​Experience in the maintenance functions of a dry-mill ethanol plant is highly preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

· ​Strong knowledge of mechanical systems (e.g., gears, bearings, rigging).

· ​Familiarity with electrical theory, motor control, and basic troubleshooting of electrical systems.

· ​Proficiency in working with hydraulics and pneumatics.

· ​Experience with welding (especially carbon/stainless steel) is considered a plus.

· ​Proficient use of a wide variety of hand and power tools, as well as specialized repair equipment.

· ​Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.

· ​Problem-solving and excellent troubleshooting skills.

· ​Communication skills to effectively coordinate with other departments and contractors.

· ​Ability to work in a safe manner at all times, including in challenging environments like confined spaces or at heights.

· ​Flexibility to work a schedule that may include overtime, holidays, and call-ins for emergency repairs.

· Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, and leadership skills.

· Strong learning skills. Healthy curiosity to learn more about our business.

· Ability to work in some outside (non-climate controlled office environments), climb stairs, and ability to lift (50 lbs or less).
