The Special Education Coordinator will work directly with students who have Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and also students in need of academic intervention.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Under the direction and support of the Executive Director of Special Populations:

Overseeing / managing a caseload of special education students and the implementation of
their IEP/504 plans in: inclusive, and resource settings
-
Ensuring appropriate delivery of both special education instruction and related services as stipulated on IEPs/504 plans.
-
Ensuring compliance by the school with all local and Federal laws and regulation relating to students with IEPs/504 plans and students referred to special education.
-
Ensuring that services provided by contractual personnel are of high quality, provided in the LRE, and are aligned with students’ IEPs/504 plans.
-
Effectively communicating to administrators, staff, parents and guardians the special education process including process for referrals, evaluations, annual IEPs/504 plans, and re-evaluations as well as parental rights granted by IDEA.

Coordinating with the Executive Director of Special Populations, administrators, student’s special education team to ensure all documents are prepared and completed in a timely manner (according to state, local, and school policies and procedures) for all PPT/IEP meetings. Coordinating with a special education team to complete quarterly IEP progress reports and provide quarterly IEP progress reports to parents/guardians.

Maintaining student files (paper and electronic) according to state and federal standards.

Providing training and technical assistance to case managers, teachers, related service providers and support service professionals on all aspects of service delivery and cases management: Ensuring IEPs are developmentally appropriate, and aligned to curricular and state standards.

Work to gather and maintain school/state data systems for accurate reporting to all stakeholders Supporting the planning and implementation of special education initiatives

Ensure that interventions and strategies are implemented for scholars in SAT/RTI
-
Overseeing special education inventory of equipment/materials.
-
Collaborate with the Curriculum department to identify /develop appropriate curriculum and school based assessments to support the academic growth of students with IEPs/504 plans
-
Gathering and report data for all reporting requirements concerning students with IEPs/504
plans and other required reports and maintaining a high level of knowledge regarding developing special education issues such as changes in federal and local special education policy.

Collaborating with the ED of Special Populations and administration to insure the success of special education students
-
Work with the special education staff to establish and maintain communication with parents of students in the program.

In collaboration with the special education team facilitate workshops / meetings for parents, as well as identify resources for parents of students with special needs.

Engaging parents and families in their student’s learning and acting as an ambassador for the
school in the community.

Collaborate with appropriate outside agencies as needed to meet the needs of students

Implementing and processing of special education billing

Assist with transportation set as needed with the school’s Director of Operations

Maintaining confidentiality of student records and student information
-
Actively assist with staff recruitment
-
Other duties as assigned.
Teacher qualifications:
-
Masters Degree in Special Education; or a Bachelors Degree and certification in Special Education.

Demonstrate an advanced understanding of instructional strategies for students with autism,
developmental delay, specific learning disabilities, and behavior disorders.

NYS Certification in Special Education (required)

Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of colleagues, parents, families, and community members.

Time Commitment & Compensation
This is a 12-month, full-time salaried exempt position.
Supervision
This position reports to the Executive Director of Special Populations.
Compensation:
Salary for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience. Capital Preparatory Schools offers a comprehensive benefits package.
This is a full-year, full-time, vacation eligible exempt position.
