Job DescriptionAre you a recent law school graduate looking to work with experienced attorneys and paralegals who will give you opportunities to further your legal career? Our firm is hiring an associate attorney who will support us by conducting legal research, drafting documents, maintaining client files, and assisting with legal counsel. The ideal candidate will have some courtroom experience and strong legal research and writing skills. $80,000 - $105,000 per year

Responsibilities:

  • Attend court hearings or other legal proceedings, perform legal research, and work with senior associate attorneys to provide legal advice
  • Organize and maintain files to ensure accuracy for other attorneys, paralegals, and staff
  • Create legal documents, including correspondence, briefs, motions, pleadings, contracts, affidavits, and settlement agreements for contract negotiations and proceedings
  • Analyze conflicts in legal matters, advise clients on solutions, and negotiate on behalf of clients
  • Communicate with senior associates, paralegals, and clients to ensure cases are handled efficiently
  • Manage an assigned caseload from inception through resolution
  • Draft pleadings, motions, discovery demands and responses, and legal correspondence
  • Conduct legal research and prepare cases for hearings, depositions, mediations, and trials
  • Take and defend depositions, including plaintiff depositions
  • Appear in court for conferences, hearings, and motion practice as needed
  • Communicate with clients regarding case strategy, status, and resolution options
  • Collaborate closely with the supervising attorney and paralegal to move cases efficiently
  • Maintain organized and up-to-date case files

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must have successfully passed the state bar exam
  • Completion of a Juris Doctor (J.D. degree) from an accredited law school
  • Active member of the American Bar Association (ABA)
  • Exceptional communication skills and problem-solving skills needed in order to work with all levels of staff and our clients
  • Ability to work with senior attorneys to best serve client needs and grow our client base
  • 1+ year of experience in plaintiff-side personal injury litigation preferred
  • Admitted to practice in New York and in good standing
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
  • Experience drafting pleadings, motions, and discovery; deposition experience preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple deadlines
  • Self-starter with a desire to learn, take ownership of cases, and grow as a litigator
