POSITION DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Executive Director
Classification: Full Time, Exempt
Reports To: TLCIL Board of Directors
Job Location: Saranac Lake, NY
Compensation: Starting at $63,000, salary will be based upon qualifications and
experience.
Benefits: Employees contribute 40% of monthly premium for health insurance; employer contributes 60%.
We are looking for an extraordinary individual who will, under the supervision of the board of directors, manage TLCIL in a manner consistent with the center’s core vision. This special person will demonstrate their commitment to the center’s vision with kindness and openness, ensuring the highest ethical standards, operating the center with integrity and transparency.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Board of Directors:
Engage and support the board of directors in their role to oversee the organization by communicating effectively with the board to allow for informed decision making.

Ensure that board members have the information required to fulfill their stewardship and fiduciary responsibilities and support them as the policy-making body of the organization

Develop and recommend to the board of directors a fiscally sound budget that reflects its short and long term goals

Be accountable to the board for the outcomes the organization seeks to achieve and fulfillment of its vision statement

Develop and bring opportunities for growth to the board for its review
Strategic Planning:
Engage in strategic planning in consultation with the board of directors, staff, and stakeholders. Recognize, create, and capitalize on opportunities for organizational growth and success, including prioritizing diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism both with TLCIL itself and throughout the community.

Provide leadership, direction, and guidance on the 3-year State Plan for Independent Living (SPIL) process, which includes the plan’s formulation and development, monitoring, statewide consumer satisfaction survey, and statewide needs assessment

Facilitate the periodic review of the organization’s mission and vision statements and values

Oversee the development of strategies for the creation of change, including advocacy coalition building, and education
Community Relations:
Build new and maintain current relationships with the disability community, other disability advocacy organizations, local, state, and federal government agencies, as well as the general community at large.

Advise the community, local businesses, and elected officials on key issues for people with disabilities and innovative solutions to removing barriers to greater participation in all aspects of society

Ensure that TLCIL has education programs that are relevant to the needs of the communities it serves and for the general public to gain in understanding of disability, the status of people with disabilities, and disability rights
Financial:
Work with the board finance committee to develop, implement, and monitor the annual budget with the primary goal of establishing and maintaining long term financial stability of the organization.

Manage the organization’s finances and advise the board on private, state, and federal funding that affects their stewardship of the organization

Oversee the development of financial statements that accurately reflect the financial status of the organization

Work with the Board of Directors to broaden the financial support for TLCIL”s work to increase revenue through a variety of funding sources, such as developing and growing the organization’s donor base; cultivate new, individual, and institutional donors

Ensure compliance with state and federal laws and regulations, as well as grant or funding related requirements
Personnel:
Lead the TLCIL team by example exhibiting integrity and dependability while encouraging the staff to become innovative problem solvers who know when to ask for help when it is needed. Foster and promote the professional development of staff through training, coaching, and ongoing professional development. This energetic leader will build a strong, effective, and confident team to fulfill the goals and vision of TLCIL.

Work closely with the board of directors to ensure that personnel policies reflect best practices and legal compliance

Ensure that the organization is seeking the best candidates with disabilities for positions with TLCIL and create a climate for excellence and teamwork on the part of the staff

See that the staffing structure of the organization keeps pace with its growth
Qualifications Required:

Bachelor’s degree in human services, Human Resources, or similar field from an accredited institution -OR-
-
Four years experience in provision of work readiness services
