Job Title: Job Readiness Trainer (Career Mentor)
Employment Type: Temp/Contract
Compensation: $26-27 hourly (based on 35/hr work week)
Location: Hunts Point, Bronx, NYC
Schedule: Monday-Friday either 8:30-4:30pm or 9-5pm (per coverage needs), in-office

Purpose: America Works of New York, Inc. is seeking a job readiness trainer aka Career Mentor for a workforce development program in Manhattan. The Trainer will design and facilitate workshops on job readiness, vocational skills, and industry exploration topics for low-income and underserved job seekers. The ideal candidate has teaching/training experience and is excited to create curriculum based on labor market trends and participant needs.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver engaging workforce development and job readiness trainings for adult learners
  • Prepare lesson plans, develop curriculum and presentations, and brainstorm new trainings that provide job seekers with the skills to make informed choices in their professional, personal, and academic lives
  • Collaborate with the Case Manager and Sales Team to tailor educational offerings to client needs and interests
  • Provide support to clients with their job search efforts, higher education applications, personal and career assessments, and exam preparation
  • Refer clients to vocational trainings, technical skills classes, and other certification programs
  • Facilitate feedback surveys, consult with program staff about client progress, and determine training needs and priorities
  • Maintain class enrollments, update daily attendance logs, submit weekly reports, and issue training certificates on a timely basis
  • Utilize classroom management skills to provide a positive learning experience for all training participants
  • Model professionalism and inclusiveness, cultivate a safe environment for career development, and motivated clients to find full-time employment

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4-year degree, relevant experience and/or advanced studies in social services a plus
  • One to three (1-3) years of experience teaching or training
  • Experience working with individuals in a workforce development, social services, or community-based context preferred
  • Experience and/or passion for serving individuals from disadvantaged and underserved populations, including but not limited to public assistance recipients, justice-involved individuals, persons with physical and/or mental disabilities, and individuals experiencing homelessness
  • Knowledge of Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-Informed, and/or Two-Generational methods a definite plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Familiarity with Salesforce, Microsoft Teams, and SharePoint preferred
  • Strong communication skills, professional demeanor, sound judgment, and strong organizational skills
