Job DescriptionWe are looking for an experienced and strategic legal expert to lead the legal department of a prominent financial services organization in New York, New York. This role requires a strong ability to navigate complex regulatory environments, provide insightful counsel to senior leadership, and ensure the organization’s operations align with legal standards. As the Head of Legal, you will play a key role in guiding the company’s legal strategy and fostering a culture of compliance.
Responsibilities:
• Provide expert legal advice to executive leadership on matters such as regulatory compliance, corporate governance, and contracts.
• Lead and manage the legal department, offering mentorship and direction to early-career legal staff.
• Develop and implement legal policies and procedures to ensure adherence to applicable laws and regulations.
• Identify and mitigate legal risks associated with business operations and transactions.
• Oversee the drafting, negotiation, and review of contracts and other legal documents to safeguard organizational interests.
• Manage litigation processes, including coordinating with external counsel and representing the company in legal proceedings.
• Deliver legal training to employees to enhance awareness of compliance and legal responsibilities.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including HR and Finance, to ensure legal compliance across various areas.
• Stay updated on legal developments and industry regulations to proactively address potential impacts on the organization.• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active licensure to practice law.
• A minimum of 10 years of legal experience, with substantial in-house counsel experience in the financial services sector.
• Strong expertise in corporate law, contract law, and regulatory compliance.
• Proven leadership and management abilities, including mentoring and guiding legal teams.
• Exceptional analytical skills to evaluate complex legal issues and deliver practical solutions.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills to effectively interact with internal and external stakeholders.
• High ethical standards and a commitment to maintaining organizational integrity.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
