About GO and Our Tutors

The mission of GO Tutor Corps is to provide students with access to a quality education through high-dosage tutoring. We envision an America where every child has the support of a tutor to enable them to realize their full human potential.

After 15 years of recruiting, training, and supporting in-person tutors in schools across the Northeast, GO will add a new virtual tutoring program in Fall 2025.

Position Summary

The challenge: Tutoring is most effective when lessons are individualized for each student. While off-the-shelf intervention curricula or new AI tools can provide a strong foundation, they require thoughtful adaptation to meet the unique needs of each learner. Our tutors often have the best understanding of what their students need, but they lack the training and experience to design high-quality lesson plans and aligned materials.

The solution: Join our team as the Virtual Curriculum Designer, a contract position at the intersection of exciting advances in tutoring and AI. You'll use a combination of innovative AI tools—including both in-house systems and publicly available platforms—to create high-quality curricular materials that support our virtual tutors. Initially, your primary focus will be on developing lesson plans and student facing materials that align with our instructional goals and student needs for virtual tutoring. Over time, you'll also help us build and continuously improve our AI-enabled lesson planning tool into a more dynamic, data-informed model by contributing to systems that integrate tutor feedback and student performance data to refine and improve our instructional materials. You will be responsible for ensuring that lesson materials are high-quality and for loading them into our online tutoring system on schedule.

Please note: You will work as an independent contractor (1099) for 3 months (9/8/25-12/8/25) with the possibility of transitioning into a full-time position if our virtual tutoring program continues to grow.

This Position is Perfect For You If:

  • You have 5+ years of experience designing (not just modifying) high-quality, data-informed lessons (as a tutor, teacher, or administrator) within grades 6-12, especially 7th and 8th grade Math (our expected focus areas for virtual tutoring). You must have a strong understanding of what makes an engaging and rigorous lesson for students and how data should be used in the lesson–planning process.
  • You have a strong vision for high-quality lesson materials in both Math and ELA.
  • You have experience using AI to enhance your work, with an understanding of its potential and limitations within the education field. You are comfortable using tools that are still in the development stage and performing quality-control checks on AI-generated materials.
  • You are highly organized and able to structure your time to meet a complex series of deadlines. Our tutors need to receive their lesson plans far enough in advance to prepare for each lesson, and you will be responsible for generating lesson plans that will impact hundreds of students.
  • You have experience working with students from low-income backgrounds and with early-career educators.
  • You live in the Northeast Corridor area (between DC and Boston); while this position is remote, if you later transition into a full-time role with GO, you will need to collaborate in-person with teammates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lesson Plan Creation & Materials Management (90% of time) - You'll use our in-house AI tools to create high-quality, rigorous, and engaging lesson plans for our virtual tutors. Using AI tools will significantly reduce the time required to create each lesson, but you will still be responsible for reviewing all materials and editing them as necessary. You will be responsible for loading lesson plans and aligned student-facing materials into our online tutoring platform. You'll collaborate with our Director of Data and Research and other staff members to test and refine our AI-enhanced lesson planning cycle. Through these efforts, you will play a pivotal part in the success of our virtual tutoring program.
  • Tutor Observations (10% of time) - You'll watch recordings of tutoring sessions, or tune in live, to see first-hand how your lesson materials are being utilized. Based on what you see, you'll help improve our AI tools. You may also deliver feedback to tutors about how they are utilizing the lesson materials you prepared for them.

Start Date

  • Our ideal start date is no later than Monday, September 8, 2025.

Compensation

  • As an independent contractor, you will be paid $40/hr. We estimate that you will work 30 hours per week, up to a maximum of 130 hours per month.
