REPORTS TO: PROGRAM DIRECTOR, ARCHES

LOCATION: 1709 St. Mark's Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11233

HOURS: Up to 13 Hours/Week, Non-Exempt

SALARY: $22.52/Hr.

JOB SUMMARY: The Arches program is an innovative, curriculum-based group mentoring intervention that helps young adults between the ages of 16 -24 and on probation, transform attitudes and behaviors that have led to criminal activity. The Mentor works in Brooklyn’s Brownsville neighborhood with a cohort of 4 mentees, participates in weekly mentoring groups, meets individually with mentees and provides support and guidance.

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Serve as mentor for court-involved young adults aged 16-24, who are on probation
  • Acts as Lead in weekly mentoring group utilizing Arches curriculum-based Interactive Journaling model
  • Participate in all DOP training and technical assistance sessions
  • Meet with mentees for one-on-one meetings on a weekly basis
  • Provide mentees with support, guidance, and advice throughout the week
  • Plans and participates in monthly recreational/ educational outings with mentees
  • On-call 7/24
  • Create opportunities for participants to maximize their potential through provision of engaging programming, high expectations, and quality services
  • Meet with Program Director for bi-weekly supervision
  • Participate in case conferences and staff meetings
  • Communicate with DOP Probation Officers as appropriate
  • Use internal and external computerized databases as required
  • Participate in development and implementation of processes that ensure integration of participant feedback in program planning
  • Participate in agency work groups and committees
  • Record weekly engagement with mentees
  • Support the engagement of school, employment and/or treatment services
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience and comfort working with court-involved young adults
  • Prior justice involvement or knowledge of preferred
  • Familiarity with Brownsville community and challenges faced by young adults living there
  • Solid group work skills
  • Experience with cognitive -behavior therapy and/or evidence base practices preferred
  • Knowledge of Word, Zoom, & email usage
  • Familiarity with strength-based/youth development principles
  • Ability to work evenings and some Saturdays
