OVERVIEW:
Reporting to the Chief of Legal Services, Attorney will provide direct legal representation (court appearances and legal/immigration proceedings) to victims of domestic violence in Westchester County.
DUTIES:
- Provide legal advice, and representation (i.e. family law litigation, matrimonial actions, custody & visitation, child support, orders of protection, and immigration).
- Conduct client intake and offer trauma-informed legal advice, counsel, and (if needed) referrals.
- Manage caseload via continued communication with clients, court personnel, and partner agencies.
- Collaborate with the District Attorney’s Office, law enforcement, and other community agencies to advocate for survivors’ rights
- Maintain accurate records and case files.
- Participate in training and professional development activities to enhance legal knowledge, especially in domestic violence advocacy
- Engage in outreach and collaborate with community partners to provide comprehensive support to clients.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 2+ years of legal experience, preferably in family law, immigration or domestic violence-related cases.
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
- License to practice law in New York State.
- Bilingual (Spanish)
- Commitment to serving diverse communities with empathy and cultural competence, while providing trauma-informed, client-centered legal services.
- Valid driver’s license or access to reliable transportation.
