C.H. Thompson is currently seeking a hands-on Department Lead for our Wet Paint Department to join our dynamic team and support our production operations. The Wet Paint Department Lead plays a key role in keeping the paint team organized, productive, and on schedule. This position combines technical skill with team coordination and is ideal for someone who enjoys being actively involved in daily operations while helping others succeed. This position is a great first step into management for someone with strong hands-on experience and leadership potential.

Position Overview

  • Lead the Wet Paint Department, ensuring painters remain on task and daily production goals are met.
  • Ensure all painters have the necessary work orders, supplies and tools to complete their jobs efficiently while planning ahead to ensure there are no gaps in production and/or down time.
  • Distribute production schedules and work orders to painters.
  • Mix paint according to specifications and ensure painters are following proper application standards.
  • Line up work for painters and coordinate workflow to maintain efficiency.
  • Conduct paint thickness inspections and ensure quality standards are met.
  • Assist with racking, prepping, inspecting and material handling to meet deadlines.
  • Identify and resolve any issues or inefficiencies in the Wet Paint Process such as incorrect paperwork - communicate with engineering and the quality team on changes needed or missing documentation.
  • Maintain quality control procedures to ensure all products meet industry standards and customer specifications.
  • Manage paint inventory, including tracking usage, ordering supplies, and maintaining proper stock levels.
  • Communicate with supervisors and other departments to manage priorities.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area to promote safety and efficiency.
  • Ensure adherence to all safety protocols and use of required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in a paint or finishing department preferred but not required.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead by example and support team members.
  • Comfortable with physical tasks including lifting, standing, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling and reaching.
  • Demonstrates a strong quality mindset, with attention to detail and commitment to meeting standards.
  • Willingness to learn and grow into a leadership role.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred

Shift Hours:

  • Summer Hours: Monday - Thursday 6:30am - 3:30pm, Friday 6:30am-12:30pm
  • Regular Hours: Monday - Friday 7:00am-3:30pm

Total Compensation Package:

  • Wage: $18.00 - $23.00 per hour (compensation depends on the selected candidate's experience).
