Overview:

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Behavioral Intervention Specialist (BIS) to join our team in supporting individuals with developmental disabilities. In this role, you will play a key part in enhancing the quality of life for the people we serve by developing and implementing positive, person-centered behavioral strategies.

Under the guidance of a clinical psychologist, the BIS monitors individualized behavioral support plans aimed at increasing functional skills and reducing challenging behaviors. Your work will focus on empowering individuals to achieve greater independence and actively participate in their communities.

What Your Role Will Do:

  • Conduct Functional Behavioral Assessments and collaborate on additional evaluations with the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT).
  • Develop and implement individualized behavior support plans under the guidance of a clinical psychologist, focusing on skill-building in emotional regulation, time management, socialization, and conflict resolution.
  • Set measurable behavioral goals, track progress through data systems, and provide monthly and quarterly reports based on data analysis.
  • Deliver hands-on training and ongoing coaching to Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to ensure consistent implementation of behavior plans.
  • Lead in-service training on topics such as therapeutic environments, de-escalation techniques, and proactive behavioral strategies.
  • Coordinate care with psychologists, day programs, families, and other support networks to ensure cohesive and person-centered behavioral support.
  • Monitor psychiatric medications and provide data-driven reports to psychiatrists; attend or prepare for psychiatric consultations as needed.
  • Respond to behavioral crises and train staff in emergency interventions; participate in on-call crisis support.
  • Present behavior plans and medication requests to the Human Rights Committee for review and approval.
  • Actively participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, including annual, semi-annual, and weekly sessions.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation of all behavioral support services, both on-site and electronically.
  • Offer therapeutic support to residents and day program participants as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Psychology, School Psychology, Applied Psychology, or a related clinical field.
  • At least 1 year of experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Strong background in behavioral assessment and support plan development.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Willingness to travel between program sites as needed.

Work Location: Nassau County Area

Work Hours/Schedule: Full-time, Monday – Friday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM

Pay: $65,975/year

Paid Time Off:
