About the Position

The Department of Veterans Affairs – Finger Lakes Health Care System is seeking a Board Certified or Board Eligible Gastroenterologist to join our team at the Rochester Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC).

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, and management of patients with gastrointestinal and hepatic disorders.
  • Perform and interpret endoscopic and therapeutic procedures including colonoscopy, EGD, sigmoidoscopy, PEG tube placement, and related interventions.
  • Deliver consultative services to outpatient and inpatient Veterans.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation in the VA’s electronic medical record system (CPRS/VistA).
  • Participate in quality assurance, peer review, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Adhere to all VHA Directives and local VA policies regarding credentialing, privileging, and clinical practice standards.


Schedule: Monday–Friday: 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.


Qualifications

  • Education: MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
  • Training: Completion of an ACGME-accredited fellowship in Gastroenterology.
  • Certification: Board Certified or Board Eligible in Gastroenterology (ABIM).
  • Licensure: Unrestricted license to practice medicine in any U.S. state or territory.
  • Certifications: Current BLS and ACLS required.
  • Experience: Prior VA or federal healthcare experience preferred but not required.


Preferred Skills & Competencies

  • Proficiency in both diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy.
  • Excellent clinical judgment and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with VA electronic health records (VistA/CPRS) a plus.
  • Commitment to evidence-based, Veteran-centered care.
