Job DescriptionHead Start Classroom Aide
Hours: 35 hours per week / 46 weeks per year (Non-Exempt)
Location: In Person - Hudson, Valatie, and Craryville
Wage: $16.81 per hour
Position Summary:
The Head Start Classroom Aide supports the classroom team in providing a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for eligible preschool children. The Head Start Classroom Aide assists with classroom operations, child supervision, meal service, and maintaining a clean and organized environment. This role plays a key part in supporting children's healthy development and school readiness.
Essential Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Experience working with young children in an early childhood educational or care setting
- Willingness to pursue training related to early childhood development
Essential Skills, Abilities, and Characteristics:
- Ability to interact with children in a warm, nurturing, and respectful manner
- Willingness to take direction and work as part of a classroom team
- Basic understanding of child development principles or willingness to learn
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Organized, dependable, and able to maintain confidentiality
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet classroom needs
Other Requirements:
- Clean, valid New York State driver’s license preferred (may be required at some locations)
- Must pass New York State Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment inquiry and criminal background check
- Must complete a medical examination, including a tuberculosis (PPD) test
