🩺 POSITION SUMMARY:
The Nurse Manager – Emergency Department holds 24-hour responsibility for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care services in the ED. This high-impact leadership position is central to driving performance, safety, and quality in a fast-paced environment. The Nurse Manager leads operational workflows, ensures regulatory compliance, promotes patient-centered care, and fosters a culture of collaboration and accountability.
💼 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operational Oversight
- Develop and manage daily staffing schedules and long-term workforce planning
- Monitor unit performance metrics (e.g., agency/overtime costs, turnover rates)
- Oversee training, development, and orientation of ED personnel
- Lead quality and performance improvement initiatives
- Maintain a departmental dashboard with KPIs on service, people, quality, and leadership
- Address and resolve patient, staff, or physician concerns
Clinical & Patient Care Standards
- Establish and enforce evidence-based nursing standards in collaboration with executive leadership
- Monitor compliance with protocols impacting patient outcomes
- Promote a safe and inclusive environment for patients, families, and staff
- Ensure equal access to care for all populations
Human Resource Leadership
- Conduct staff meetings to review performance, goals, and clinical updates
- Partner with HR on hiring, counseling, and performance evaluations
- Educate staff on departmental procedures, technology, and clinical systems
Communication & Collaboration
- Foster interdisciplinary collaboration with all healthcare team members
- Communicate effectively and tactfully with staff, physicians, and patients
- Support hospital-wide initiatives, policies, and objectives
Additional Responsibilities
- May include weekend or holiday coverage as needed
- Other related duties as assigned
✅ REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum 5 years of nursing management/supervisory experience in an Emergency Department
- Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN)
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State
- Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications
- Demonstrated ability in:
- Staff development and performance management
- Prioritizing in high-pressure situations
- Conflict resolution and service recovery
- Operational and clinical leadership

- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) certification
