Summary
Little Eagles Nest Daycare is currently seeking a caring, energetic, and reliable Assistant Teacher to join our boutique, family-centered early childhood program. This position is for our Ardsley location, with potential future opportunities at our upcoming new site in Dobbs Ferry.
Schedule: Monday–Friday (Full-time or part-time positions available)
About the Role:
The Assistant Teacher works closely with the Lead Teachers and Director to support a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for young children. You will assist in daily routines, classroom activities, and transitions, and help ensure each child is engaged, supported, and thriving. Under the guidance of the Lead Teacher, you’ll help implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum and build positive relationships with both children and families.

Duties
Some of the responsibilities you will have include, but are not limited to the following:
- Support teachers in creating and maintaining a safe, welcoming, and enriching classroom environment
- Assist in daily routines including meals, diapering/toileting, naps, and transitions
- Participate in and lead small group activities, circle time, and outdoor play
- Assist in the implementation of curricula activities and encourage participation by children.
- Encourage self-help and good hygiene through behavior modeling.
- Observe and document children's progress and behavior to support individualized learning
- Communicate positively and professionally with families, children, and team members
- Help maintain classroom cleanliness, organization, and compliance with safety standards
- Contribute to a warm, collaborative atmosphere where children feel secure and valued
- Maintain personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.
Requirements
- Experience in a daycare or preschool setting required
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Currently enrolled in or completed Early Childhood Education coursework is a plus
- Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
- Must pass a full background check and health screening (including TB test)
- Infant/Child CPR and First Aid certification (can also be obtained after hiring)
- High energy and a true love for working with young children
- Ability to work well with others in a collaborative, team-based setting
- Strong understanding of child development and early learning principles
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Basic computer and smart phone/tablet skills for documentation and communication
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
Nice To Haves
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field
- Prior experience working in a licensed group family daycare or Reggio/Montessori-inspired setting
- Familiarity with Brightwheel or other childcare documentation software
- Bilingual (especially in French or Spanish)
- Familiarity with Quality Stars NY standards
- Experience working with infants and toddlers in mixed-age classrooms
- Creativity in planning arts, nature-based, or sensory learning activities
- Interest in healthy eating, gardening, or sustainability education
- Experience supporting children with special needs or working alongside therapists
