Title: Staff Attorney Immigration Legal Services

Location: Bronx

Reports to: Executive Director Legal Services

Status: Full-time

Salary: $105,000/annual

FLSA Status: Exempt

Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced immigration attorney. The successful candidate will have a passion for immigration law and a commitment to providing exceptional legal services to clients from diverse backgrounds. Key Responsibilities are as follows, but not limited to:

  • Advising clients on immigration laws and procedures, including asylum applications, naturalization, family-based petitions and removal proceedings.
  • Representing clients in immigration court and before U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS).
  • Preparing and filing immigration applications, including petitions for visas, permanent residency and citizenship.
  • Conducting legal research and draft legal briefs.
  • Communicating regularly with clients and updating them on the status of the case.
  • Staying up to date with the latest changes in immigration laws and regulations.
  • Conduct free consultations twice a week.
  • Review the Immigration Navigator’s work.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
  • Must be able to travel to multiple NYC sites as needed.

Work Environment / Schedule Requirements:

  • This is a full-time exempt position while standard business hours are Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM, exempt employees are expected to work the hours necessary to effectively fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on organizational needs deadlines or event events.”

Qualifications:

  • Must be able to read, speak, write, and understand English for administrative purposes.
  • Must pass drug screening to be appointed.
  • This position may be subject to a series of investigations before and after appointment.
  • An attorney in good standing in New York State with 3 or more years’ experience practicing immigration law, including trial experience.
  • Admitted to NYS Bar and eligible to practice law.
  • Proficiency in legal research and writing.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with immigration court.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups.
