In direct collaboration with the Director of Education, the Senior Sexuality Educator is responsible for supporting the delivery of a robust menu of sexuality education programs that reach school and out of school time youth throughout NYC. Via the development of strong linkages with schools and community-based organizations, the Senior Educator will schedule workshop series, outreach events, and other education and training activities designed to meet departmental goals and PPGNY’s mission. In addition, the Senior Educator is responsible for facilitating sex education programs, including sexual and reproductive health curricula, and youth development programs to youth in target communities throughout New York City. The Senior Educator will conduct community outreach to raise awareness of PPGNY’s broad range of services as well as link clients to services. In order to bring best practices to the field of sexual and reproductive health, the Senior Educator will be part of a team of trainers who facilitate trainings to professionals via PPGNY’s esteemed Training Institute. The Senior Sexuality Educator will support efforts in research and technical assistance for special projects within the Education Department. Flexibility in work schedule is essential.Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
Community Outreach and Facilitation (75%)
- Facilitate sexuality education workshops, community outreach to youth, and develop informative social media content. In all activities, ensure adherence to PPGNY’s mission, values, and guiding principles and maintain curriculum fidelity.
- Assist Program Coordinator with developing partnerships with community based organizations for workshop implementation in school and out of school
- Conduct community outreach that includes, but is not limited to community events, pop\u0002ups, tabling, fairs, school events, etc.
- Maintain community relationships by representing PPNYC to community partners with professionalism and connect partners to additional programs as applicable.
- Attends or Facilitates trainings for professionals via the PPNYC Training Institute, as needed.
- Attend coalition meetings as necessary.
Program Administration (15%)
- Collect demographic, monitoring and evaluation data from workshop and training participants; compile data appropriately and prepares submission.
- Collaborate with Youth Health Promoters to post on social media and create content that will educate and engage community on SRH/SRJ.
- Develops written monthly reports.
Special Projects (5%)
- Assists and collaborates with team to execute any cross program opportunities or overarching youth program initiatives
- Works as a member of the Education and Training Department staff and maintains high standards of professionalism and collaboration. Represents the Department at selected internal and external meetings
Other (5%)
- Stays current on research related to sexuality and reproductive health. Helps to identify articles to be read by other Education and Training staff.
- Performs other educational and experience related duties or projects as outlined by the
- Education Department’s annual Work Plan or as outlined in grant applications.
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience providing public health educational workshops and presentations.
- Requires ability equal to that usually derived from satisfactory completion of courses required for graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelors Degree in education, communication, social work, public health, or related field.
- Experience with communities impacted by adverse health outcomes, knowledge systemic barriers to sexual reproductive health and wellbeing faced by marginalized communities especially women, LGBTQ, poor/working class and communities of color
- Experience working with and engaging youth.
- Experience in working with diverse population and knowledge of sexual and reproductive
- health.
- Flexible schedule
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred not required
Typical Demands and Working Conditions
- Requires prolonged sitting and repetitive tasks including use of a computer. Periodic standing, walking, bending. Requires lifting or moving of up to 25 pounds of programming or event materials. Must be able to occasionally walk up and down stairs. Visual acuity sufficient to perform frequent work on a computer screen and review printed reports and other materials. Requires the ability to hear and to communicate orally with others. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets, and will require reaching, grasping, pushing and pulling.
- Working Conditions:This job operates in a professional office environment. Potential exposure to communicable diseases and other conditions in a health center environment. Requires travel to various indoor and outdoor environments to conduct programming or events. Requires flexible schedule and during peak activity periods work in excess of 7.5 hours per day and/or 37.5 hours per week
