Area Function
The Finance Office includes the:
- Treasurer’s Office which manages the operating cash and the longer term assets of the Society, including the endowment portfolio and charitable trusts and oversees administration and management of the Budget; and
- Controller’s Office which records and processes all of the financial transactions for the Society; assists the Treasurer in developing and monitoring budgets; and works with the Society’s independent auditors to implement appropriate controls to safeguard assets and resources of the Society.

To provide leadership for a department charged with the responsibilities of financial reporting and control.
Reporting Relationships
- Reports to the Treasurer & CFO
- Directly Supervises:
- Two Assistant Controllers
- Cash Receipts Supervisor
- Grants and Compliance Manager
- Indirectly Supervises:
- Accounts Payable Supervisor
- Accounting Specialist
Duties & Essential Job Functions
- Manage and coordinate the overall activities of the Controller’s Office including supervising accounting entries
- Manage and coordinate the monthly closing process
- Manage and coordinate the annual independent audit
- Evaluate and maintain effective internal system controls to assure the safeguarding of assets and the reliability of financial statements.
- Assist the Treasurer to prepare and administer annual and triennial budgets, Maintain Advanced Budget Management Systems
- Oversee all accounting and financial reporting
- Supervision of four direct reports
Other Functions And Responsibilities
- Act as Staff support during board meetings.
QualificationsRequired
- B.S. Degree in Accounting
- Supervisory experience and skills
- Ability to work alone and as a team to make appropriate decisions
- Strong organizational, time management and problem-solving skills
- Advanced knowledge of accounting. Knowledge of all accounting functions performed by the staff being supervised
- Minimum of 7 - 10 years in an accounting/finance management position experience
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles as they relate to not-for-profit organizations
Preferred
- CPA is desirable, but not required
- Extensive Knowledge of Accounting systems and software, Financial Edge, Great Plains or comparable
- Good sense of humor
- Proficient in MS Excel
- Proactive
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
- The physical demands are those of a typical office. Must be able to use telephone and computer and be able to work for extended periods at a desk.
- Some travel is required in connection with meetings of General Convention and its committees and interim bodies
- The incumbent should be able to function smoothly in a team environment in which information and work are shared.
