Job DescriptionCenter for Recovery and Wellness is part of Educational Alliance (EA), which brings together diverse communities in Lower Manhattan, offering individuals and families high-quality, multigenerational programs and services that enhance their well-being and socioeconomic opportunities. One of New York City’s original settlement houses, EA was founded in 1889 to offer educational, social, and cultural services to Jewish immigrants arriving to the Lower East Side. The Role: In August 2017, Educational Alliance was appointed as an official NYC Health Opioid Overdose Prevention Program (OOPP). This program, which will be run by the OOPP Outreach Coordinator, is designed to equip local individuals with the skills and resources necessary to prevent an opioid overdose. Under the direction of the Prevention and Wellness Coordinator, the OOPP will develop, implement, manage, and evaluate the Opioid Overdose Prevention Program to prevent overdose deaths in the LESC community.

  • Participate in the development and implementation of an overall strategy to address substance use in the LESC community, including overdose prevention and harm reduction strategies;
  • Develop, update, and maintain program policies and procedures;
  • Develop and implement an opioid overdose prevention strategy, utilizing naloxone/Narcan administration and fentanyl testing strips at its core.
  • Update and deliver opioid overdose prevention trainings for community members, and internal and external stakeholders, manage requests for trainings, and collaborate with and make referrals;
  • Collect and analyze Opioid Overdose Prevention training data, naloxone usage data, and overdose reversal reports, create and manage reports, prepare quarterly Intranasal Naloxone Reports;
  • Follow up and track all nonfatal overdose occurrences.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Project HELP, Department of Education Restart Academy, and recovery services;
  • Develop relationships with community groups/agencies in partnership with the Center for Recovery and Wellness;
  • Adhere to agency and program-specific policies and procedures;
  • Perform any other duties as required

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED and 1 yrs. work experience
  • NYS Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA) preferred
  • Understanding of and respect for each individual’s unique pathway to recovery
  • Skills in active listening, motivation, and awareness of self
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey information clearly, accurately, and completely
  • Ability to work collaboratively and manage multiple priorities and projects effectively
  • Strong work ethic, particularly in a customer and team setting
  • Experience with culturally diverse populations
  • Experience with database systems preferred
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Availability to work flexible schedules
