Position Summary
The Southern Queens Park Association (SQPA) is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Assistant Program Director to support the ExpandED afterschool program at P.S. 118Q, Lorraine Hansberry School. This innovative program serves elementary-aged youth through structured, club-style programming designed to promote academic success, personal development, and leadership skills. Programming includes enrichment in the arts, sports, youth leadership, and experiential learning throughout NYC. The program operates five days a week during the school year and offers extended services during the summer.
This site functions under SQPAs broader mission and benefits from the organizations rich network of facilities, programs, and leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the implementation of program policies and ensure participant compliance.
- Assist in supervising classroom staff, managing schedules, and guiding activity execution.
- Help maintain a safe, engaging environment with appropriate staff-to-student ratios.
- Collect and report daily attendance figures to the site administrator.
- Communicate program updates, challenges, and successes to the Afterschool Director.
- Help coordinate staff trainings, meetings, and professional development sessions.
- Participate in outreach efforts to recruit and retain program participants.
- Attend all required meetings and trainings, including those held by SQPA, DYCD, and ExpandED.
- Collaborate with the Educational Specialist and Site Director on lesson planning aligned with programming themes.
- Assist with data collection and contribute to program evaluation and improvement.
- Help identify and secure resources to enhance program quality and growth.
- Support grant writing and other administrative initiatives related to program development.
- Carry out special projects and tasks assigned by the Program Site Director.
Qualifications
- Minimum Education: Associate degree or equivalent
- Preferred Education: Bachelors Degree
- Experience: Minimum 2 years in youth development, education, or a related field
- Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills
- Passion for working with youth and fostering inclusive learning environments
- Must pass a background check

Job Type: Part-Time | Approx. 20 hours/week
Compensation: $21/hour
