Job Description

The Senior Officer, Marketing & Communications plays a key role in shaping and executing marketing strategies at New York Cares. Reporting to the Senior Director, this position will manage 1-2 staff members while supporting strategic planning, leading digital content initiatives, and collaborating cross-functionally to amplify our brand and mission.

The Sr. Officer will work within a small communications team to extend our brand’s reach to new audiences, grow and build strong communities of stakeholders, and work to convert website and social media visitors into engaged supporters. The Sr. Officer will set and oversee organization wide social and content calendars while playing a key role in partnership strategy, telling the story of New York Cares through a variety of digital content streams.

Participating in a broad range of special initiatives, they will leverage strong research, project management, organization, and collaboration skills to integrate innovation, streamline operations, and support excellence across the organization. They will serve as a lead collaborator between internal teams and serve as second in command to the Senior Director.


Responsibilities

  • Support the Senior Director, Marketing & Communications in team organization, content development, and implementing strategic initiatives that advance the brand.
  • Lead the organization’s email marketing and social media strategy on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and new platforms. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
    • Build and manage the organization’s social and email calendar that engages current stakeholders and prospective supporters.
    • Content collection and creation from volunteer projects, New York Cares events, and culturally relevant NYC events.
    • Serve as the gatekeeper for highly visible content - ensuring all content is proofread, consistent with branding and messaging, approved, and relevant before posting.
    • Monitor and engage in relevant social discussions about our organization, competitors, and/or industry, both from existing consumers as well as from brand new audiences.
    • Support in the creation of ad campaigns for social media.
    • Coordinate cross platform strategy with Marketing Specialist.
  • Execute the organization’s marketing and communications focused strategic partnership initiatives. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
    • Sourcing and developing partnerships with brands and people committed to the New York Cares mission.
    • Representing New York Cares in field events and promotional opportunities.
  • Work with our external PR company to drive press coverage to events and initiatives, coordinate incoming media requests, organize talking points for senior staff, and pitch potential stories to reporters.
    • Work closely with the Programs team to plan and execute media events.
  • Work collaboratively across the organization to research, manage, and execute strategic cross-functional initiatives. Projects may include but are not limited to:
    • New York Cares brand initiatives: work collaboratively to integrate social media/influencer strategies and refresh branded content.
    • Marshal resources and project manage initiatives to improve the organization’s fundraising technology and donor database.
    • Support the maintenance and evolution of our website, newyorkcares.org.

Qualifications

The successful candidate:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 6+ years of progressive professional experience, graduate degree or related certification a plus.
  • Has excellent interpersonal skills; quickly builds rapport and trust with team members at every level and across the organization; is empathetic and adept at communicating from the stakeholder’s perspective.
  • Is a highly collaborative influencer, able to gain buy-in from varied stakeholders and persuade without authority.
  • Demonstrates strong organization and project management skills.
  • Demonstrates initiative and innovation. Consistently brings new perspectives, thoughtfulness, and imagination to the work; often looks beyond current practices to discover new opportunities and novel solutions.

  • Is culturally competent and engages people of diverse backgrounds with awareness, humility, and sensitivity. Maintains awareness of social and racial justice issues facing communities served by New York Cares.


Compensation

Salary range is $75,000 - $87,000 and is commensurate with demonstrated competencies and experience.
