This role is located at our Macedon, NY location.
WHAT WE NEED
The Staff Accountant is responsible for applying generally accepted accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial information, prepare accurate and timely journal entries, and reports on Capital Project activity.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Reviews Capital Expenditure Requests (CERs) for accuracy and completeness and ensures quotes on file support the reported budget.
- Assists Engineering team to enter Capital Projects in SAP with appropriate detail and expenditure timelines.
- Releasing the budget in SAP for all Capital Projects.
- Reconciles the Construction in Progress (CIP) account during month-end close and follow-up on status to place in service as needed.
- Prepares monthly amortization entries including capital leases.
- Settles monthly activity in Capital clearing accounts to CIP.
- Creates assets in SAP including appropriate descriptions and useful lives for tax and book.
- Assigns value to assets in SAP during the month end and retains detailed breakdown for audit purposes.
- Ensures Capital invoices are properly and timely saved in the project directories for future reporting and audit.
- Runs and posts monthly depreciation in SAP.
- Running reports to project depreciation for Annual Operating Plan (AOP) and tax planning as needed.
- Reviews purchase order commitment reports from SAP at the month-end and investigates with requisition creators the status for possible accrual.
- Prepares the monthly account reconciliations for CIP, Downpayments, and Deposits.
- Serves as the main point person for New York State grant reporting including annual submission of spending summary and supporting invoices.
- Acts as a business partner to the Engineering team by attending meetings on project status and becoming knowledgeable of capital project details to facilitate asset entry into SAP.
- Regularly updates Accounting Manager with Capital Project cash flow needs for forecasting.
- When necessary, conduct accounting research to ensure proper Fixed Asset accounting and liaises with external audit firm for guidance when necessary.
- Provides assistance to other Finance team members as needed with month-end closure, balance sheet account reconciliations, year-end audit support and other projects as needed.
- Other duties may be assigned.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent from four-year college or technical school.
- A minimum of two (2) years of applicable experience in accounting
- Prior Capital Project/Fixed Asset experience required.

Hybrid work environment: 3 days onsite and 2 days remote. Please note, the first 90 days will be fully onsite for training purposes.
