Summary/Objective
The Health and Safety Manager will lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of company-wide health and safety programs. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations and fostering a culture of safety across all departments. The Health and Safety Manager will collaborate closely with Human Resources and other department leaders to support safe workplace practices, employee well-being, incident response, and training initiatives.
Key Areas of Responsibility
General
- Develop, implement, and maintain health and safety policies, procedures, and programs in compliance with OSHA and other relevant regulations
- Conduct regular workplace inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions
- Coordinate and deliver safety-related training sessions for staff at all levels, including new hire orientation and ongoing programs
- Work with department leaders to tailor safety practices to operational needs and provide department-specific guidance
- Collaborate with HR to integrate safety protocols into onboarding, employee training, and return-to-work procedures
- Partner with HR to complete safety records, including incident reports, OSHA logs, training documentation, and audit findings
- Lead investigations of accidents, near-misses and safety violations, recommend preventative measures and ensure follow-through.
- Stay current on relevant legislation and best practices in occupational health and safety
- Serve as a liaison with regulatory agencies and external safety consultants or inspectors
Construction Sites
- Collaborate with installation managers and project managers to tailor safety plans based on project type, scope, and timeline
- Complete PPE analysis and make recommendations to department leaders regarding PPE
- Consult installation managers on leading safety meetings, toolbox talks, and other site-specific safety measures as needed
- Maintain safety documentation
- Lead and facilitate the company-wide Safety Committee, ensuring regular meetings and actionable outcomes
- Develop and implement corporate safety standards that align with national and local regulations
- Design and oversee safety training programs for all levels of staff, including onboarding and ongoing education
- Ensure compliance with city-specific safety regulations, including NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) requirements
- Conduct site safety audits and provide corrective action plans for underperforming locations

Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not require supervisory responsibilities at this time.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment but time spent on project and construction sites is required.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional long hours and weekend work is required. Must be able to respond to urgent safety issues as needed.
Travel
This position requires frequent domestic travel, including to New York City and other major metropolitan areas. Must be able to travel on short notice and stay on-site for extended periods as needed.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Bachelors degree in Health and Safety, Safety Engineering, Environmental Health, or related field required.
- At least five years of occupational health and safety experience in a construction environment required.
- Experience with both field safety (e.g., fall protection, electrical) and office safety (e.g., ergonomics, slips/falls, fire safety)
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
1. OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification required
2. NYC SST Supervisor Card (62-hour Site Safety Training) preferred for NYC-based projects
3. CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician), CSP (Certified Safety Professional), or equivalent strongly preferred
4. Familiarity with NYC DOB regulations and Local Law 196 preferred
