The West Side Federation for Senior and Supportive Housing, Inc. (WSFSSH) is a community-based organization responding to the need for low-cost housing. Our mission is to provide safe, affordable housing with supportive services within a residential setting that enhances the independence and dignity of each person. WSFSSH develops, manages, and provides social services in housing for low-income persons, especially those who are older, who have experienced homelessness and who live with mental illness.
Job Summary
WSFSSH is looking for a responsible and detail-oriented Accounting Manager to work under the direction of the CFO to take the lead role in quarterly closing of books and preparation of financial reports.
Please Note: This is a full-time position required to be in-house onsite 4 days a week and one day remote (35 hours)
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Lead the quarterly closing of accounting books record, following the year end audit required schedules
- Managing efficient account and control processes
- Document, implement and communicate financial policies and processes
- Play a key role in the monthly and end of year closes
- Identify ways to automate, optimize and improve financial operations
- Prepare quarterly consolidated Income Statement and Balance Sheet in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles
- Analyze Balance sheet accounts and Income and expense accounts, as required
- Reconcile interfund billing transfers between WSFSSH and its affiliates
- Monitor reserves, fees, debt entries and escrow funding accounts balances.
- Manage banking transactions, including transfers, cash projection and cash management. Assist with tracking and preparation of draw requests from operating, replacement and other reserves
- Lead in the creation of and management of user-friendly MIP report
- Partner with CFO to develop internal audit programs
- Develop key performance indicator dashboards, as needed
- Assist with year-end audit government contract audits
- Assist with special projects, as assigned
Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple complex projects concurrently, often working under the pressure of deadlines, and ability to work independently or collaboratively and delegate effectively
- Advanced Proficiency in Excel
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Able to work independently and with the highest levels of integrity
- Experience with Sage MIP Fund Accounting and Real Page is preferred
- Nonprofit account experience required; Experience working in real estate accounting a plus
Required and Preferred Education, Experience and Credentials
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field, or a combination of comparable experience and education. Professional or Advanced degree is preferred
- 3+ years in a Senior Accounting position
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to lift or push up to 10 pounds at a time
- Travel to our residential sites, as needed
