Position Overview
We are seeking a strategic and experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join our leadership team. The CFO will be responsible for overseeing all financial operations, developing strategic financial plans, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting the growth and operational excellence of Carey & Co and our nonprofit clients. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of financial leadership in professional services or nonprofit environments, with strong skills in financial analysis, reporting, and operational management.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Management: Lead all aspects of financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
- Strategy & Growth: Partner with the CEO and leadership team to align financial strategy with organizational goals and support long-term growth initiatives.
- Compliance & Risk Management: Oversee accounting practices, audits, tax filings, and regulatory compliance, ensuring adherence to GAAP and nonprofit financial regulations.
- Internal Controls: Develop, monitor, and refine internal controls and financial procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure operational efficiency.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for leadership, including financial statements, KPIs, and cash flow analyses.
- Vendor & Partner Management: Manage relationships with banks, auditors, accountants, and external financial service providers.
- Team Leadership: Build and oversee a small finance team (internal staff and/or external vendors) as the organization scales.
- Operational Support: Support pricing strategies, contract reviews, and operational initiatives to optimize financial health and service delivery.
Qualifications & Skills
- 8+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, preferably in the nonprofit, consulting, or professional services sectors.
- Strong understanding of nonprofit financial management, GAAP standards, and fund accounting.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel; familiarity with additional ERP systems a plus.
- Proven ability to translate financial data into strategic recommendations for leadership.
- Experience managing financial operations in a growing organization.
- CPA, MBA, or equivalent advanced degree strongly preferred.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Candidates located in the New York Metro area and open to working onsite for clients as needed are preferred, but candidates located elsewhere will also be considered.
