The mission of Jazz at Lincoln Center, Inc. (“JALC”) is to entertain, enrich and expand a global community for jazz through performance, education, and advocacy. The Manager of Institutional Giving is responsible for supporting the entire institutional giving team with the preparation and production of written materials to foundations, corporations, and government agencies, and for managing our operational systems and any special projects in collaboration with the Director, Foundations and Associate Director of Institutional Giving. The ideal candidate will be an exceptional communicator, researcher, and project manager, and will work collaboratively with the Development team, and various departments across the organization, to produce compelling collateral materials that represent JALC’s mission and diverse programming across the fields of arts, culture, and music education.
Responsibilities
- Lead cross-functional coordination of foundation grant efforts across departments – including education, finance and other teams – to ensure timely preparation, submission, and reporting of proposals and grants.
- Manage the full lifecycle of institutional grants, including private, corporate, and government funders, ensuring timely submission of applications, reports, and contract documentation.
- Draft sophisticated funding proposals, letters of inquiry, concept notes, decks and interim/final reports tailored to institutional funders, reflecting strategic alignment with JALC’s mission and priorities.
- Serve as the key point of support with program officers, cultivating and maintaining strong external relationships and representing JALC in meetings, site visits, and communications.
- Collaborate with the Finance team to develop detailed grant budgets, reconcile grant-related accounts, and ensure alignment between financial and narrative components.
- Support Project Pioneer, a multi-year initiative to expand foundation revenue, by coordinating prospect research and tracking outreach, cultivation and stewardship activities.
- Implement and monitor institutional moves management, including stewardship, renewal, and upgrade strategies to deepen funder engagement and retention.
- Prepare briefing materials, donor acknowledgments, and internal memos for leadership, ensuring all communications reflect JALC’s tone, brand, and impact.
- Ensure accurate and timely donor recognition by managing foundation donor crediting in all print and digital materials, collaborating with marketing and relevant departments to uphold brand and contractual standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- 5 years of work experience with 2+ years of experience in grant writing and/or institutional giving
- Familiarity with local, state, and federal government and compliance policies a plus
- Excellent expository writing, research, copyediting and communication skills
- Ability to interact with funders and anticipate funder needs
- Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office, Asana and Tessitura
- Familiarity with prospecting tools such as Foundation Directory Online and DonorSearch
- Understanding of complex budgets
- Keen attention to detail balanced with excellent time management
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Results-oriented, with a passionate commitment to the performing arts and an appreciation for JALC’s goals and mission

Work Location Expectations
At Jazz at Lincoln Center, we believe the best work happens in person, through collaboration, spontaneous conversation, and the kind of connection that reflects the spirit of jazz itself. While we do not offer formal hybrid arrangements, we approach real life with understanding: when things come up, we are flexible. That said, staff are expected to be on site whenever their role or schedule requires it, whether that is standard hours, evenings, or weekends, so that we can do our best work together.
