Insero Talent Solutions has partnered with a 50+ year old industry leading, family-owned and growing manufacturing company based in Avon, NY to recruit a Controller.

Company Summary:

Our client brings over 53 years of precision craftsmanship and innovation. As they move into their third-generation leadership; they are creating a new strategic role to support long-term succession planning and to allow our President/CEO to focus on day-to-day financial operations and strategic initiatives.

Position Summary:

The Controller reports directly to the President/CEO and will become a key member of the leadership team. This individual will oversee all accounting functions, help modernize financial processes, and serve as a trusted partner in planning and operations. This role is ideal for a finance leader who thrives in a collaborative, value-driven environment, and who wants to contribute meaningfully to a legacy business entering its next chapter.

The Controller will lead the financial function of the business and support executive decision-making with timely, accurate financial insights. The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in manufacturing accounting, cost controls, and ERP systems, and will work cross-functionally to improve visibility and drive efficiency.

This role will play a key part in translating long-standing institutional knowledge into structured financial planning tools. Budgeting and forecasting are areas of opportunity for the right candidate to build from scratch using our ERP capabilities and leadership guidance.

Occasional support of administrative areas (e.g., HR, office/purchasing functions) may be required as a backup resource in collaboration with department leaders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead all accounting functions, including General ledger, accounts payable and receivable, cost and inventory accounting, bank reconciliations and cash flow management, financial reporting and internal controls.
  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
  • Develop budgeting and forecasting structure using ERP tools.
  • Translate historical trends and executive insights into financial planning tools to support informed decision-making.
  • Maintain internal controls, GAAP compliance, and audit readiness.
  • Provide timely, accurate financial statements, dashboards, and analysis.
  • Recommend and implement ERP/accounting system improvements.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, sales, and HR.
  • Mentor and develop accounting staff.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the President and leadership team.
  • Provide backup support to HR, Office Administration, and Purchasing during peak times or absences (not a primary responsibility).

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with at least 3 in a leadership role.
  • Proven experience in manufacturing finance, including cost accounting and standard costing.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and regulatory compliance.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and ERP/accounting systems (e.g., Epicor, SAP, NetSuite).
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Self-driven, reliable, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfortable working with executive teams and front-line operations alike.
