Role Description
This is a full-time Evening on-site role for a Sous Chef at a FLIK Independent School in Tarrytown, NY. The Sous Chef will report to the Executive Chef and be responsible for the successful operation of the culinary department at the facility. You will assist in the supervision, preparation, and cooking of various food items, developing daily menu items, and their preparation and garnishment. You will supervise hourly associates, and you will work with the Executive Chef/Chef to develop new menus and assist with ordering. This is an exciting opportunity for an energetic, entrepreneurial culinary professional.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assists the Executive Chef with managing cost controls and controlling expenditures for the account
- Assists the Executive Chef with planning and creating menus
- Assists the Executive Chef and team in executing catering events
- Rolls out new culinary programs in conjunction with the Company marketing and culinary team
Qualifications
- Culinary skills, Menu Planning, and Food Safety knowledge
- Leadership abilities to supervise kitchen staff
- Experience in maintaining kitchen cleanliness and organization
- Strong communication skills and teamwork collaboration
- Knowledge of dietary restrictions and allergies
- Ability to work under pressure and in a fast-paced environment
- Catering experience, a plus
- High volume, complex food service operations experience - highly desirable
- Institutional and batch cooking experiences are helpful
- comprehensive knowledge of food and catering trends with a focus on quality, production, sanitation, food cost controls, and presentation
- Must be experienced with computers, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Outlook, email, and the Internet
- Must be willing to participate in client satisfaction programs/activities
- Certification from a culinary school or relevant work experience
- ServSafe Certificate or equivalent Food Handlers Certificate
Salary Range (Based on Experience): $65,000 - $75,000 / year
Schedule/ Hours:
- The Sous Chef will be on the PM Closing Shift, with the latest being on-site until 8 pm during regular services; however, this may change due to catering needs.
- Hackley School operates Monday through Friday, and occasionally on the weekends and late nights due to catering needs.
- A catering schedule and calendar will be provided to allow for scheduling purposes.
