Job Summary:
GTM Payroll & HR is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to join our Accounting team within a dynamic Payroll, Insurance, HR, and PEO environment. This position plays a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, supporting cross-functional operations, and maintaining strong internal controls. The ideal candidate will bring a high level of expertise in financial analysis, GAAP-based accounting, and accounting system implementations, with a particular focus on environments involving multi-entity structures and high-volume transactions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Reconcile daily, weekly, and monthly bank activity across corporate and client accounts.
- Manage ACH transactions related to payroll, tax, insurance, and billing to ensure timely and accurate execution.
- Support financial reviews during client onboarding, including credit assessments and funding verifications.
- Track and enforce credit limits; identify and escalate potential risks.
- Maintain accurate balances in accounts such as payroll tax liabilities and benefit payables.
- Record journal entries for payroll-related and intercompany transactions, ensuring GAAP compliance.
- Reconcile payroll and corporate tax accounts in coordination with compliance teams.
- Analyze financial data, trends, and KPIs to provide insights that support business operations.
- Identify and implement process improvements and system enhancements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional departments including Payroll, HR, Benefits, and Risk.
- Compile and analyze monthly financial reports and explain variances.
- Participate in system upgrades, data migrations, and automation projects.
- Prepare documentation and account analysis for audits and internal reviews.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in accounting and financial analysis.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and internal control procedures.
- Experience in multi-entity environments required.
- Proficiency in accounting systems such as NetSuite, QuickBooks, or SAP.
- Advanced Excel skills; familiarity with Power BI or Tableau is a plus.
- Previous experience in a PEO, payroll, HR, or insurance environment is a plus.
- CPA, CMA, or Master's degree preferred but not required.
