The Shipping Lead is responsible for ensuring the timely, accurate, and cost-effective
shipment of all customer orders, ensuring customer satisfaction and contributing to the
company's financial health. This position requires both a hands-on and strategic approach to
evaluate and optimize department operations. Lead the shipping team, implement
continuous improvements, and drive operational excellence to enhance customer satisfaction
and advance overall company goals.
Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Leadership and Coordination
o Coordinate daily shipping tasks, delegating and prioritizing workflows for department
personnel to ensure all orders ship on time.
o Communicate with the Plant Manager, sales, and production teams to align on shipping
schedules and resolve issues promptly.
o Train and mentor shipping team members on new processes, equipment, and best
practices.
• Freight Logistics and Operations
o Determine the optimal LTL or Parcel method for each shipment, considering cost
effectiveness and specific customer requirements.
o Schedule freight carriers and manage carrier relationships to ensure timely pickups and
deliveries.
o Use UPS, FedEx, and other relevant shipping software to process shipments and
generate all necessary documentation, including Bills of Lading and international
paperwork.
• Continuous Improvement
o Lead continuous improvement initiatives within the shipping department to enhance
efficiency and optimize processes.
o Maintain an organized and clean work area, implementing 5S principles to maximize
safety and productivity.
• Warehouse Operations and Safety
o Load and unload trucks using a forklift (stand-up and high-reach) with a focus on safety
and precision, particularly in multi-level pallet rack systems.
o Manage and maintain inventory of all shipping materials and supplies.
o Foster a safe work environment, ensuring the team adheres to all safety protocols and
equipment operating procedures.
Qualifications & Experience
• A minimum of 3+ years of recent, related experience in a lead shipping role, Manufacturing
environment strongly preferred
• Demonstrated experience using UPS WorldShip and processing LTL shipments, with a
thorough understanding of associated terminology and concepts
• At least 2 years of recent, verifiable indoor forklift experience, including high-reach and high
precision activities in a multi-level pallet rack environment.
• Proven ability to accurately create and process shipping paperwork, including Bills of Lading
and international documentation.
• Expertise in managing time and resources in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency in modern logistics and shipping software, including Microsoft Office Suite.
• Problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues, gather information, and make
informed decisions.
• Must have clean driver’s license.
Communication and Language Skills:
Ability to read, write, and speak English; Comprehend customer orders, instructions, and
shipping documentation; Communicate effectively with carriers, staff and customers in writing
and in person verbally, by phone and electronically; Demonstrates positive interpersonal skills
with all. Spanish a plus but not required
Mathematical Skills: Demonstrate strong mathematical and analytical skills for comparing shipping rates and processing measurements. This will include ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all
units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and three place decimals. Ability to
use a calculator.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an
employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The role requires regular
standing, walking, bending, stooping, and using hands for handling and reaching. The employee
must be able to regularly lift and/or move objects weighing up to 70 pounds.
