Our Client is expanding its field leadership capacity and is seeking a Field Construction Manager to oversee critical electric utility infrastructure programs across multiple service territories. This role provides direct oversight of construction crews, contractor performance, and technical execution for structure inspection, restoration, and targeted upgrade projects. The position requires strong operational discipline, deep technical fluency, and the ability to drive execution excellence in dynamic field environments.
Role Overview
The Field Construction Manager is accountable for leading day-to-day field operations across a portfolio of utility construction initiatives. This leader coordinates multi-site activities, ensures compliance with engineering and safety standards, oversees quality performance in the field, and provides guidance that keeps construction workflows aligned with project requirements and operational targets.
Key Responsibilities
Field Leadership & Construction Oversight
- Lead and manage field construction activities, including pole groundline inspection and treatment, wood pole restoration, steel pole and tower inspection/repair, and insulator replacement programs.
- Direct job start meetings at service centers, ensuring contractors, inspectors, and internal coordinators are aligned on scope, safety, and schedule.
- Provide technical specifications, coordinate material needs, and resolve field-level technical questions to maintain project continuity.
Safety, Compliance & Quality
- Identify, evaluate, and report field hazards, ensuring compliance with all safety standards and regulatory protocols.
- Oversee quality assurance for contractor installations, including C-Trusses and structural restoration work, taking corrective action where needed.
- Ensure construction practices adhere to OSHA, NESC, NEC, and industry codes for utility operations.
Scheduling, Reporting & Stakeholder Alignment
- Coordinate field schedules, align resources, and track progress across multiple workstreams.
- Communicate field execution updates to senior stakeholders and provide visibility into risks, delays, and corrective measures.
- Maintain documentation, reporting, and field records aligned with project controls and contract requirements.
Qualifications & Experience
Education & Industry Background
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management with seven years of relevant experience preferred.
- Associate degree with ten years of experience, or High School/GED with fifteen years of progression-based experience required.
- Minimum of five years of progressive electric utility experience, with a preference for candidates experienced in line or substation construction management.
- Three years in a supervisory capacity preferred.
Technical Expertise
- Extensive knowledge of construction practices for electrical utility lines—including overhead, underground, and substation construction—and commissioning of electrical equipment.
- Strong understanding of interconnected electrical systems and their operational implications.
- Ability to interpret mechanical and electrical drawings, technical manuals, and field engineering documentation.
- Experience with contract preparation, negotiation, and administration.
- Familiarity with budget preparation, cost tracking, and resource planning.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear correspondence, reports, and documentation.

- Proven ability to make sound decisions in emergency or high-pressure situations.

- Commitment to safety best practices, field compliance, and operational excellence.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; SAP experience preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel daily across active construction sites.
