Role Overview
As Design Director, you will own our brand aesthetic and guardrails, ensuring every collection is cohesive, on brand, and commercially viable. You will lead seasonal concepting, color and fabric stories, and line architecture, and you will guide the creation of sketches, tech packs, and samples from first proto through production. You will partner closely with Merchandising, Planning, Production, and ECommerce/Marketing to balance creativity with margin, pricing, and calendar requirements. You will also engage vendors and mills to develop fabrications, washes, and finishes that meet quality and cost goals.
What You Will Do
You will define and evolve the brand DNA across silhouette, color, fabric, print, trims, and fit. You will build compelling seasonal decks that connect creative direction to business targets and customer insights. You will lead fittings and drive quality standards with Technical Design, ensuring consistent fit across categories. You will use competitive, sell-through, and customer data to identify smart product bets, and you will establish clear processes and feedback loops so the team delivers on time and on margin. You will mentor a small team and coordinate freelancers as needed, maintaining a hands-on studio culture.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate has 5+ years of womens apparel design experience with 3+ years leading a design team in either brand or private label environments. You have a track record of building and scaling a clear brand aesthetic and knowing when to evolve it. You are fluent in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop and comfortable working in PLM; experience with 3D tools is a plus. You bring strong knowledge of fit, construction, and cost drivers across key categories (knits, wovens, dresses, denim/soft bottoms, outerwear). You understand how product performs across wholesale, specialty, and directtoconsumer channels and design with an omnichannel mindset. You communicate clearly, give crisp feedback, and collaborate well across functions.
