About Us
VOYAGES Preparatory High School is a collaborative initiative between the NYC Department of Education (DOE) and Queens Community House (QCH), serving students aged 16+ who have struggled to earn credits in traditional high school settings. We are committed to providing personalized support services to help students earn their high school diplomas and transition into college, vocational training, or the workforce.
Queens Community House (QCH) is now seeking a dedicated and experienced Youth Development Specialist (YDS) to join our Learning to Work (LTW) program. In this role, you will provide comprehensive case management, career readiness coaching, and postsecondary planning to help students achieve long-term success.

Role Overview
The Youth Development Specialist (YDS) plays a vital role in mentoring, advising, and empowering students as they navigate their high school experience and prepare for life beyond graduation. Reporting to the Director of Counseling, the YDS will provide one-on-one guidance, facilitate workshops, and support college and career exploration.
Key Responsibilities???? Case Management & Counseling
- Manage a caseload of up to 45 students, providing personalized career and postsecondary planning.
- Conduct at least two one-on-one counseling sessions per month (academic progress + career advisement).
- Conduct regular attendance outreach, home visits, and work site visits to ensure student engagement.
- Maintain ongoing communication with parents/guardians to foster family support.
- Make appropriate internal (QCH) and external referrals based on student needs.
- Assist eligible students in completing CUNY, SUNY, Trade School, and FAFSA applications.
- Ensure timely graduate follow-ups at 1 month, 6 months, and 1 year post-graduation.
???? Administrative & Program Support
- Maintain detailed case notes and student records in Salesforce and New Visions portals.
- Monitor student attendance and document outreach and interventions.
- Assist in coordinating trips, college fairs, and career workshops.
- Participate in bi-weekly supervision meetings with program leadership.
???? Collaboration & Professional Development
- Lead engaging student caseload meetings and co-facilitate advisory sessions with DOE staff.
- Work collaboratively with DOE educators and school support teams.
- Exchange best practices with LTW staff across different program sites.
- Participate in ongoing professional development to enhance skills and youth engagement strategies.
???? Additional Responsibilities
- Attend QCH and DOE events, including occasional after-school and weekend activities.
- Support staff meetings, trainings, and organization-wide initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support program success.
Qualifications – What We’re Looking For
✔ Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Youth Development, or a related field.
✔ Experience & Skills:
-
Minimum 2 years of experience working with youth in schools, community-based organizations, or social services.

Strong skills in mentorship, case management, and career counseling.

Ability to work collaboratively with diverse student populations, parents, and educators.

Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise professional discretion.
✔ Technical & Additional Requirements:

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Salesforce, and database management tools.

Fluency in Spanish preferred.

Must be willing to undergo DOE security clearance and background checks.
