Job Title: Part-Time Payroll Specialist
Location: Farmington, NY
Schedule: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays
Hours: Part-time (approx. 12-18 hours/week)
Pay: $22-$27 / hour
Reports To: HR Director

Position Summary:
We are looking for a detail-oriented and reliable Part-Time Payroll Specialist to join our HR and Finance team. This in-office role is responsible for processing weekly payroll using ADP Workforce Now for both salaried and hourly employees across multiple states (NY, OR, PA, SC, TX) and three affiliated companies: New Energy Works, Pioneer Millworks & Sockeye Timberframing. Candidates with construction industry or job-costing payroll experience are highly preferred. The role requires availability on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and is based in Farmington, NY.
This position plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of payroll and benefits, upholding compliance standards, and supporting the financial transparency needed to fulfill our mission of building better for people, planet, and prosperity.
Key Responsibilities:
• Process weekly multi-state payroll for salaried and hourly team members using ADP Workforce Now (NY, OR, PA, SC, TX)
• Review and audit timecard data, job cost coding, deductions, reimbursements, and accruals
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll and wage regulations
• Respond to payroll-related questions from employees in a timely and professional manner
• Collaborate with HR and Accounting teams to ensure accuracy in payroll, reporting, and job cost allocations
• Support onboarding and offboarding processes related to payroll setup and final pay
• Generate payroll reports and assist with audits, reconciliations, and year-end tasks
• Post payroll data and related liability accounts to the general ledger; reconcile payroll-related general ledger accounts
• Work closely with the Finance team to ensure accurate and timely journal entries for payroll and benefits-related liabilities
• Support HR and Finance during multiple audits, including financial, 401(k), and multi-state workers' compensation audits
•Assist with annual nondiscrimination testing for benefit plans
• Maintain strict confidentiality of all payroll and employee information
Qualifications:
• Experience with ADP Workforce Now required
• Construction or job-costing payroll experience strongly preferred
• Experience supporting 401(k) and multi-state workers’ compensation audits preferred
• Understanding of general ledger, liability accounts, and basic accounting concepts strongly preferred
• Familiarity with Acumatica ERP is a plus
• Solid understanding of payroll and tax regulations, including multi-state requirements (NY, OR, PA, SC, TX)
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data reporting tools
• Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive employee and financial information
Work Environment:
• This is an on-site role at our Farmington, NY office
