Hours: (full-time, 40 hrs/wk) M-Th, 8 am – 5 pm | Fr, 8 am – 2:30 pm (regular OT expected including weekends as needed)

Location: This position is located in Albany, NY – onsite work is required

Status: Hourly, Non-exempt

Pay Range: $20 - $27 Compensation based on Experience

The Material Handler’s primary responsibility will be to receive raw materials, place into inventory and pull saw material packages. The position will assist the Machine Department Supervisor, along with the Receiving Manager, in developing and implementing strategies to ensure continuity of supply, scheduling the press line to match the panel saw requirements.

Primary Responsibilities include: 

  • Unloads and stages incoming material in a safe manner.

  • QC’s all incoming product ensuring it’s the correct item with accurate quantities when reconciling against the Purchase Order and any referenced prints.

  • Notifies Purchasing, Production, and Machine Supervisor of non-conforming materials and/or discrepancies upon receipt.

  • Prepares non-conforming materials to be returned to the vendor.

  • Pulls and kits all materials for distribution to the various machines panel saw, nested base CNC, press line and finish line.

  • Notifies Purchasing and/or Production of any missing or late material.

  • Helps maintain part organization to improve department and shop flow.

  • Keeps all areas clean, neat, and organized at all times (pallets and obstructions need to be removed as soon as possible).

  • Issues materials from Epicor to ensure accurate counts are maintained in inventory on hardwoods, sheet goods, laminates, veneers, Plexi, edge banding and metal.

  • Notifies Receiving and Machine Managers of issues with material and inventory via email whenever necessary.

  • Perform related work as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have a basic understanding of loading/unloading and storage procedures.  

  • Must have adequate computer skills to operate material issuing functions in an ERP software.

  • This position must have the ability to operate both Forklifts with an understanding of all safety precautions.

  • The Material Handler is also trained to unload a variety of materials from several types of trucks in varying weather conditions.

Required Attributes 

  • Follow safety-related practices and procedures.

  • Ability to maintain daily process and procedures.

  • Punctuality and regular attendance are essential.

Key Performance Indicators

  • Maintaining current and accurate raw material transfer paperwork and daily issuing of same in the ERP system. 

  • Ability to multi-task

  • Track and maintain accurate inventory counts.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to: frequently remain in a stationary position; communicate and discern information accurately; move throughout the work area. Must also constantly: operate/handle tools and/or machinery; position self, including ascending/descending steps or stairs, to inspect, maintain and service equipment; move or transport product throughout the work area.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, fumes, and loud noises. Employees are always required to wear P.P.E. while on the manufacturing floor.
