Job DescriptionThompson and Johnson Equipment is seeking an energetic Customer Service Sales Specialist for our Syracuse Branch. The right individual is self-motivated, competitive, organized, computer savvy and goal-oriented. We are looking for a person that has the ability to offer a creative attitude and inspiration to foster sales growth in the market.

Thompson & Johnson is the leading Material Handling forklift dealer in Upstate New York and we represent the largest and most successful manufactures in the industry including Toyota Industrial Equipment, Crown Equipment, Clark Material Handling equipment, Hawker Motive Power and several other specialty manufacturers.

As a CSS your goal is to establish and maintain rapport with accounts to ensure customer satisfaction while continuing to pursue positive business relationships. A successful Sales Specialist will strengthen relationships while promoting the company's values and culture while simultaneously exceeding customer expectations with the goal of becoming an "Indispensable Partner".

Responsibilities include preparing sales strategies, schedule appointments, and travel to current and prospective customers to arrange face-to-face appointments. Develop new customer business and participate in sales forecasting and planning and assessing; updating and modifying projected goals to increase revenue and sales. Interact with suppliers, coworkers, and customers via personal contact, phone and email on a variety of issues relating to products, pricing, discounts, availability, and to identify and resolve customer concerns. Complete administrative duties, including but not limited to, preparing proposals, expense accounts, sales call schedules, sales reports, and creating customer correspondence and reports.

$52,000 salary plus commission

Minimum Job Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Associates degree in business, marketing, or related field a plus.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years related sales/marketing experience. Previous experience in material handling service industry a plus. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Must have at the time of hire, and maintain throughout employment, a valid drivers’ license free of major infractions.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative in meeting sales and revenue goals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of planning and scheduling techniques and the ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Ability to gather data, analyze information, solve problems and prepare reports.
  • Ability to identify and/or follow up sales leads and referrals.
  • Ability to operate a computer to send/receive email messages, post information to a database or spreadsheet, and perform basic word processing and/or data entry.
  • Ability to travel throughout the area on a regular basis.
