Database Systems Management
- Provision, configure, and administer relational and cloud-based database environments, including instances, replicas, and clusters.
- Carry out essential maintenance routines such as version upgrades, data patches, and scheduled backups.
- Monitor database health and performance metrics to identify and resolve latency and efficiency concerns.
- Enhance SQL queries and database structures to ensure optimal throughput.
- Define and enforce policies around database access and user privileges to maintain data confidentiality and integrity.
- Align database operations with relevant compliance standards (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR) and implement audit controls.
- Design robust backup strategies and implement automated recovery workflows.
- Conduct periodic recovery tests and maintain documentation for disaster recovery scenarios.
- Implement mechanisms such as clustering, load balancing, and read replicas to ensure system availability and fault tolerance.
- Adjust infrastructure and performance thresholds to support scaling requirements as demand grows.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of all database configurations, procedures, and architectural decisions.
- Diagnose and resolve database service disruptions and slowdowns quickly.
- Partner with software development and DevOps teams to address application-related database performance and stability concerns.
Qualifications & Competencies:
- Strong command of SQL and familiarity with query tuning and database indexing strategies.
- Hands-on experience with database solutions including Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and Snowflake.
- Knowledge of infrastructure in cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Solid grounding in data protection strategies, access control frameworks, and compliance mandates.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex performance and availability issues.
- Clear and effective communicator with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience managing relational and cloud-native database environments in a production setting.
