Qualifications:
o Must have Fire Investigation experience 4 + years
o IAAI Expert testimony class or deposition / trial experience or be able to obtain within 1 year.
o IAAI – CFI required
o NAFI – CFEI required
o Must be eligible for licensing as a private investigator
o Skills in analyzing, interpreting, synthesizing, prioritizing and reporting pertinent information,
o Excellent interpersonal, written & oral communication skills
o Commitment to confidentiality and able to handle sensitive information
o Ability to drive to work and job sites within the tri-state area and beyond.
o Ideally live in the long island / NYC metro area
o Must have working knowledge of NFPA 921 and NFPA 1033
o Analytical & problem solving skills
o Communication skills necessary to communicate opinions and findings
o A genuine passion to problem solve, be self motivated & can work alone yet be part of a team
o Proficient computer & iPad skills
o Exemplary time management
o Ability to apply critical thinking techniques to investigate scenes
o Must be able to get to and from a job site daily and sometimes travel overnight for a case.
o Must conduct yourself with honesty & integrity and operate ethically in everything you do.
Responsibilities:
o Be able to conduct high complexity, in-depth fire and explosion investigations on fires scenes, including documentation, photography, diagrams, interviews, burn pattern analysis, evidence collection and more
o Apply thorough knowledge of general fire scene safety and potential hazards during investigations
o Prepare and provide accurate technical documentation of any fire or explosion investigation in order to accurately recall and communicate effectively observations of the scene at a later date.
o Collect, identify and safeguard all evidence and chain of custody necessary to the determination of an origin and cause fire claim.
o Apply local, state & federal statues to ensure investigations are carried out within the requirements of applicable laws
o Participate and testify in all legal proceedings as a certified technical expert as to the origin and cause of a fire or explosion incident.
