Our Vision:

Overview: The Enterprise Risk Strategist is a forward-looking advisor responsible for enterprise-level risk intelligence and the credit union’s risk appetite framework. This role transforms risk data across all risk categories into strategic insights that influence capital planning, product development, and institutional decision-making. The strategist also ensures cross-functional integration of credit, operational, technology, fraud, compliance, ESG, and strategic risk into a cohesive risk narrative. The strategist works closely with the CRO, executive leadership, and the Board to ensure risk-taking supports long-term value creation and resilience.

Responsibilities:

Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Own the development, calibration, and maintenance of the enterprise risk appetite framework across all risk categories.
  • Translate risk appetite into measurable thresholds, directional indicators, and clear escalation criteria.
  • Lead the annual risk appetite refresh process, aligning enterprise tolerances with institutional strategy, capital capacity, and regulatory expectations.
  • Deliver actionable, forward-looking insights that synthesize risk data across credit, operational, financial, fraud, compliance, and strategic domains.
  • Identify interdependencies between risk categories—e.g., how product growth affects operational strain, data privacy exposure, or reputational risk.
  • Connect internal performance trends and external signals (macroeconomics, regulation, market behavior) to the credit union’s enterprise risk posture.
  • Analyze credit portfolio trends, reserve movements, and CECL model outputs to inform allowance adequacy and capital planning.
  • Support stress testing and scenario analysis with credit loss forecasts and performance sensitivity insights.
  • Ensure credit risk insights are presented in the broader context of enterprise risk strategy.
  • Interpret ALM model results (NII, EVE, rate shocks) to assess interest rate, market, and liquidity risk exposure.
  • Connect balance sheet dynamics to strategic and capital planning conversations, ensuring IRR insights inform enterprise-level risk decisions.
  • Evaluate enterprise-level risk implications of key initiatives such as new products, fintech partnerships, technology transformation, or geographic expansion.
  • Provide strategic risk framing for executive decisions, board discussions, and long-term planning efforts.
  • Ensure all initiatives are assessed for alignment with risk appetite and institutional resilience.
  • Develop enterprise-level risk narratives, appetite reporting, and actionable insights for Board and Risk Management Committee materials.
  • Partner with the CRO in shaping the strategic tone of risk communications—linking risk posture to performance, capital, and member impact.
  • Present complex risk issues in a clear, concise, and decision-useful manner.
  • Adhere to federal regulatory requirements, such as the Anti-Money Laundering and Bank Secrecy Acts, and all established policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as requested and special projects as assigned.

Requirements:

  • 7+ years in enterprise risk strategy, financial risk management, and/or risk analytics
  • Experience leading or managing a risk appetite framework across multiple risk domains
  • Advanced understanding of CECL, credit portfolio analytics, and ALM metrics (e.g., NII, EVE, capital sensitivity)
  • Familiarity with NCUA and NYFS regulatory risk expectations
  • Strong proficiency with Excel and dashboard tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
