Position

Met Weld International is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Document Control Specialist & Production Planner to join our manufacturing team. This dual-role position is responsible for managing commercial and technical documents for the company and assisting with production planning to optimize workflow efficiency. The ideal candidate will have experience in document management and production scheduling within a manufacturing environment.

The document control responsibilities will include collecting, maintaining and distributing documents necessary to define product configurations (customer requirements and engineering output), and involvement with quality/documentation processes that ensure conformance to MWI requirements. The position in this role will also develop and maintain a comprehensive filing system and computer database for all documents to be retained in the document control system; manages the operation of the document control system to ensure that authorized users have the latest revision of appropriate documentation in a timely manner.

The production planner responsibilities will include creating and maintaining production schedules to help ensure organizational goals and customer delivery deadlines are met. This role requires close coordination with Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Quality teams to balance customer demands, operational constraints, and resource availability. Key responsibilities include daily monitoring of customer orders, delivery change requests, equipment performance, workforce capabilities, and inventory levels to develop actionable and efficient production schedules. This position involves collaboration across all levels of the organization.

Document Control Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collect and maintain files of the latest revision level documentation necessary to define product configuration and control of manufacturing processes.
  • Timely distribution of latest revision level documentation to all appropriate users and ensure that obsolete documentation is removed from distribution and archived according to MWI established processes.
  • Coordinates Engineering drawing request and review processing.
  • Develops, edits, maintains, and manages submission of documents to customers (typically through customer portals).
  • Supports the creation of project quotation folders and project folders.
  • Examines documents such as quotations, customer purchase orders, drawings, change orders, and specifications to verify completeness and accuracy of information/data.
  • Posts changes to computerized or manual control records, releases documents, and notifies affected departments.

Production Planning Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development of production schedules, ensuring efficiency and alignment with business objectives.
  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate material procurement to meet production demands.
  • Communicate with production teams to resolve scheduling conflicts and optimize workflow.
  • Collaborate with supply chain, procurement, and quality teams to streamline operations.
  • Utilize ERP or MRP systems to manage production planning and scheduling tasks.
  • Track production metrics and generate regular performance reports to provide production status, production issues and efficiency.
  • Ensure all work in the system is properly documented and resolve any ERP transaction errors impacting the production schedule and assist with identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.

Skills

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel at an advanced level. Must also be proficient in Word PowerPoint and Access.
  • Must have the ability to multi-task, be organized and meet critical and short deadlines.
  • Ability to handle change in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to be flexible, motivated, resourceful and organized in a multi-functional role (especially important for a small company environment like MWI).
  • Solid organization and time management skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret production data.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and communicate effectively.
  • Knowledge of ISO standards and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Innovative and driven to be challenged with new opportunities.

Experience/ Education

  • College degree in Business Administrations, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or related field.
  • 2+ years of progressive experience in a document control and/or production planning function, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Equivalent combination of education and job experience will be considered.
  • Experience using an ERP system; Job Boss experience a plus.
  • Experience using AI a plus.
