We’re on the hunt for our next Adult Basic Education Instructor. This individual is responsible for creating simple, engaging lessons to help adults improve various job skills. As a champion of technology, the Basic Education Instructor will use technology to keep learning fun and track how students grow over time. Finally, this individual will work closely with other staff to support students as they progress towards careers and self-sufficiency.

The Awesome Things You’ll Do

  • Develop contextualized curriculum and lessons plans for adult basic education (ABE) classes with a focus on literacy and numeracy acquisition to support occupational instruction.
  • Integrates computer-aided instruction into lessons as appropriate
  • Prepare lessons and enhancement activities to address participants’ skill development in all subject areas focusing on numeracy and literacy acquisition.
  • Prepare classroom reports monitoring student’s progress, areas of improvement, graduation rate (including certifications), and placement rate (sector, wage, and upward mobility).
  • Identifies and assesses goals for self-sufficiency.
  • Work with the program’s case managers for those requiring additional assistance.
  • Prepare classroom reports monitoring students’ progress and areas needing improvement.
  • Keep a running track of participants (both current and past graduates) via student progress reports.
  • Handle other tasks as assigned by management

Our Must Haves

  • B.A. or equivalent experience teaching basic education to adults
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of computer applications
  • Extremely organized and detail-oriented person
  • Experience with multi-level classroom instruction
  • Must be energetic and creative with ability to establish and maintain student/teacher relationships
  • Must be a team player with good work ethic
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks and prioritize demands
  • Ability to present classroom lessons/curriculum in a multi-media format.
  • Proven ability to work with diverse populations 
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including active and reflective listening, motivational interviewing, authentic communication, and conflict resolution 
  • Highly effective problem-solving and follow up skills 
  • Ability to focus deadlines and details 
  • Excellent networking skills 
  • Record-keeping, case noting, HIPAA compliance, and maintaining confidentiality
