Job Summary:
The Data Manager is responsible for overseeing the organization’s data systems, ensuring the integrity, security, and accessibility of business data across multiple platforms. This role requires expert-level skills in SQL, IBM Cognos Analytics, and Microsoft Power BI to support enterprise reporting, analytics, and decision-making processes. The Data Manager will collaborate closely with IT, finance, operations, and executive teams to deliver trusted, actionable insights.
Responsibilities:
Data Architecture & Management
- Design, implement, and maintain enterprise data models, ETL processes, and data governance standards.
- Ensure high data quality, consistency, and integrity across systems.
- Manage data storage, integration, and transformation pipelines between ERP, CRM, and other business systems.
SQL Development
- Write and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and views.
- Support data warehouse and data mart development using advanced SQL Server or similar platforms.
- Troubleshoot and resolve performance issues related to SQL queries and database structures.
Reporting & Analytics
- Develop, maintain, and optimize dashboards and reports in IBM Cognos Analytics and Power BI.
- Translate business requirements into efficient and visually effective analytical solutions.
- Establish standardized reporting frameworks and self-service data models.
Collaboration & Leadership
- Partner with business stakeholders to define KPIs, metrics, and data strategies.
- Provide training and technical guidance to analysts and report developers.
- Manage access control, user permissions, and data security in reporting environments.
Governance & Compliance
- Enforce data governance best practices, including documentation, naming conventions, and version control.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies and applicable data privacy regulations.
Requirements:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- 5+ years of professional experience in data management, business intelligence, or database administration.
- Proven expertise in SQL (T-SQL or PL/SQL), IBM Cognos Analytics, and Microsoft Power BI.
- Experience managing or supporting data warehouse environments (Microsoft SQL Server, Azure, Snowflake, etc.).
- Strong understanding of ETL tools, data modeling (star/snowflake schemas), and relational database design.
Technical Skills:
- SQL Server, SSIS, or equivalent ETL platforms.
- Cognos Framework Manager and Report Studio.
- Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, DAX, Power Query (M).
- Familiarity with Azure Data Factory, Synapse, or similar cloud data tools is a plus.
Soft Skills:
- Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work cross-functionally and manage multiple priorities.
Preferred Certifications:
- Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate (Power BI)
- IBM Cognos Analytics Author/Administrator Certification
- Microsoft Certified: SQL Database Administrator or Data Engineer
